About

Pennsylvanian rockers Dr. Dog represent a blast from the past. Their music has often been compared to acts from long ago, including The Beatles and The Beach Boys, to name a couple. The retro sound of Dr. Dog has resulted in several memorable records in their nearly 15 years of existence, yet like any great band, sometimes their recorded material pales in comparison to their live act. Tickets to see Dr. Dog sell fast since the indie group usually prefers to tour the small club circuit. They have also played major festivals, like Coachella and Treasure Island, too. Dr. Dog skips the theatrics and simply sticks to good music playing live. They're a band that is highly skilled, and they even cut a live album at Google's headquarters in California. They have always jammed with famous psychedelic bands, like My Morning Jacket, in concert. Always a group to present new material, the band released their seventh studio album, called "B-Room," in 2013. The record features "The Truth" and "Broken Heart" and was the first album composed at their new studio in Philadelphia.

Dr. Dog was formed by childhood friends, Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman, as the duo preferred to experiment with lo-fi recordings, including original psychedelic material recorded on eight tracks and other vintage devices. Their first album, "The Psychedelic Swamp," was self-recorded and released in 2001. Dr. Dog became popular along the Philadelphia circuit, yet gained little notoriety outside of it. However, the group continued to write and compose the way they wanted to. This would later lead to a large cult following drawn to their complete DIY approach and indie-mentality, thanks to their tireless promotion on the Internet. "We All Belong," "Fate" and "Shame, Shame" are all classic Dr. Dog studio releases, though the band has also released its fair share of EPs and vinyl.

    Best concert

by SMatos on 12/30/21The Fillmore Philadelphia - Philadelphia

This was the best show I’ve been to in a while. The venue made us feel safe by requiring vaccination and by all of their employees wearing masks. Dr Dog played a really long set which made me feel like I was getting real value out of the evening. They really make the fans feel understood

    It's not true

    by J. L. on 11/9/21

Saw these Bonhoeffer's in Portland and they didn't do anything that had to do with dogs or MD's

The Observatory venue was the perfect place to see this last tour performance by Dr Dog! We were able to see the guys up close and personal!! And what a performance!! Brilliant throughout and the dancing never stopped! I truly hope this is not their last tour. Dr Dog is too talented a group of musicians to part ways!!

    We left early. How's that?

by Ash on 10/4/21House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I bought tickets to this show months and months before so my fiancée and I could see Dr. Dog together. They are a favorite of mine. She is disabled so I picked our seats carefully to ensure we could see via the aisle even if the people in front of us in the seated balcony stood up since she is unable to stand for long period of time. Imagine our joy when two songs in an entire group of people filled the aisle in front of us and proceeded to drunkenly wheel their arms and weasel groove without pause so we couldn’t see a thing. A venue attendant noticed we were unable to see and offered us a spot in the ADA section, which was much appreciated…until we got there. The ADA section at the House of Blues Cleveland was, I kid you not, a row of very high stools with no backs at a bar. As a bonus, no one in that section could really see, either. We really couldn’t because my partner couldn’t climb up on those stools. The rudeness and inconsideration of others made me angry, but the lack of care and planning by the venue is absolutely inexcusable. The attendant who assisted us did the best he could. I’m talking about the management and ownership and the HoB franchise, itself. One would assume an adequate level of care for those with disabilities when flying under that moniker. It’s ridiculous that the money we spent on our tickets didn’t count as much as the money spent by those to rude and drunk to sit down so others could see. And that the venue couldn’t 1) ask them to do so and 2) provide actually accessible options for disabled people. It’s 2021. Stop being ridiculous.

    Fun!

by Jrose on 9/27/21House of Blues Boston - Boston

Aside from the fact that only maybe 20% if the audience were wearing masks in a city that has an inside mask ordinance- the show was great. Fun as always.
