If you enjoy heavy bass music, there is no better artist to see than Downlink. This guy is absolutely amazing. Excision, Datsik, and other producers have great productions and sets, but I have never seen a heavier set than what Downlink throws down. I've seen him about five times over the course of five years and he consistently amazes me. Highly recommended.
I showed up slightly late to the event due to traffic and missed the first opener, and the girl who was DJ'ing when I got there was pretty good. The guy that went on after her was pretty average and didn't have any emotion or expression whatsoever...Downlink, however, was fantastic. The one issue I had throughout the event though was the MC that was there. I don't know if he was hired by Downlink or by the Masquerade (the venue) but he was TERRIBLE and kept monotone rapping over everything while using the same pattern. It REALLY killed all the music for me, especially when Downlink was playing unreleased tracks and he wouldn't shut up! (I could have gone without him emptying his beer on the crowd as well...) The venue and environment was above average, but nothing spectacular.
The artists played great sets. I'm glad I got to see downlink headline. However, security was amateur and didn't know what they were doing. First of all, the show was supposed to be 18+ and no one checked my ID at the door. Once I got in, I saw people who I am sure were underage. Security spoke to a kid TWICE who repeatedly almost started a fight with other people, then at one point started swinging and ended up hitting innocent people in the crowd. Security took too long to respond and I had to push the fight toward the back so more people didn't get hit. The sound system was weak too, I generously give it a 6/10.
