Doug Wamble was fantastic
by Nwallace on 7/2/12State Theatre - PortlandIf Robert Johnson found himself playing in the Duke Ellington Orchestra with charts orchestrated by Charles Ives it might sound a little like the Doug Wamble Band. Earthy southern blues licks on a National Steel riding over some jazz textures that are one minute very old time , next minute very modern. Soaring beautiful melodies, raucous multi soloist passages and all the performers are virtuosos. Fine singing with dreamlike lyrics telling stories by William Faulker characters Intriguing, compelling, utterly original -- can't remember when I was more engaged with every note of a performance
