About

Donnell Jones’ career took off in 1996 with his album My Heart, a collection of R&B gems that helped establish his reputation as a moody, soulful crooner. His cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Knocks Me Off My Feet” became a huge hit and showcased his spectacular singing voice. His live concerts bring his background in gospel music to the stage and ticket holders get the chance to hear Jones belt out some of his most popular numbers, like “U Know What’s Up” and “Shorty (Got Her Eyes on Me).” His smooth moves and soulful songs get the crowd chanting along with him, and he is great at injecting energy into his concerts and owning the stage with his sharp style. Donell Jones recently embarked on a 2013 tour to promote his newest album Forever, which the endlessly talented singer wrote and produced himself.

Born in Chicago to a gospel-singer father, Jones took an interest in music at a very young age. In order to avoid the gang culture of Chicago’s South Side, he started hanging out with local musicians and soon partnered up with Untouchables Entertainment president, L.A. Reid and Babyface, who gave him the boost he needed to spark his career. His solo debut My Heart jumped up to No. 30 on Billboard’s R&B chart and featured the singles, “Knocks Me Off My Feet,” “In the Hood” and “You Should Know.” If you're looking for an R&B artist with a knack for writing original, addictive tunes, be sure to catch this superstar next time he comes through your town.

    Parking

    by D. W. on 9/12/22Arena Theatre - Houston

I drove 3 hrs and didn’t know you had to pay cash for parking which I do not carry. So many people had to leave and get cash just to park and was at every atm. Bobby V wore a Forever 21 outfit but sounded good, Lloyd looked very different but sung all the jams, Dave Hollister (one of my favs) sounded so good but I felt like his stage presence could have been better and my boo Donell Jones looked so good/ amazing. I know some people say he had some pitch issues and that’s ok because overall to me gave a great performance. I was screaming so loud when he came out with the all white that I couldn’t hear any problems; was just glad I had a chance to see him again.

    Great performance

    by D. W. on 9/12/22Arena Theatre - Houston

This is my man, my boo. I am a true fan from Chicago but live in Texas now. I traveled 3 hrs to see him and had to deal with some hiccups right before and after the show, but once he came on stage wearing all white looking and sounding amazing; I forget my issues just for a moment. He sung most of all my favs but most importantly, he came over to where I was standing several times which made it all the worth while especially when he said hi back after the show was over. I can’t believe how good he still looks. I play his music so much that my grown kids know all of his songs and appreciates good R&B music. This man is a legend!!

    Mixed feelings

by EJ on 8/31/22Arena Theatre - Houston

I was so excited to see two of my favs which were Dave Hollister and Donnell Jones. Dave sounded like himself which was great and Donnell’s live performance needed work. I had high hopes for him, however I was disappointed. His sound wasn’t clear and he mumbled words. I still rock with him because I’m a forever fan. Bobby V put on a good show and Lloyd sounded good.

GOOD but could have been Perfect.

by ERONOHS on 8/30/22Arena Theatre - Houston

BOBBY V, LLOYD, and Dave Hollister gave amazing shows. I was very disappointed in DONELL JONES. His vocals were all over the place and he sounded rusty. Bobby V made me a fan the night of the event. LLOYD sounded amazing but Dave never disappoint me. Dave vocals are perfect i mean perfect. Event area was nice and even the parking staff was very polite.

    Not good

by Not worth seeing on 8/30/22Arena Theatre - Houston

I frequent many concerts and travel from San Antonio to Houston most of the time to see them. I love arena theatre however this was one of the worst concerts I have ever been to. Besides Dave Hollister and Lloyd it was not worth the money I paid to see this concert. Dave Hollister did a much better job at Essence Festival, Bobby V was so thirsty it was a shame how he treated women. Donnell Jones was so pitchy and his sound was terrible. Lloyd was the best.

    Good music for the Soul

by Jess on 8/30/22Arena Theatre - Houston

Donell Jones music touches the soul. Definitely would love to see him again. But definitely didn't like how random people continued standing in the isles and running to the front of the stage. Sadly they kept blocking my view when I was sitting down and every other person around me. We all paid good money to avoid people from blocking out view. Ushers need better management. I strongly recommend they start check people tickets as they come back from the bar or restroom to their seats to avoid this from constantly occuring. One of the random girls try to push me out of my seat. The couple behind me told me they saw everything and if I wanted to inform management they'd be my witness. I didn't want anything to escalate. So I left it alone. But unfortunately that was the only down side of the concert. Minute maid Park and Toyota center during baseball & basketball games constantly check tickets every single time a person is returning to their seats. If you do not have a ticket they will not allow you to pass. To avoid situations as what I encountered this past Saturday night 9/27/2022. Thank you
