    Truly All Stars

by alexdven on 12/14/16Faena Theater - Miami Beach

Dorado and the gang deliver a truly magical concert experience with nothing more than their instruments. There are no props, no opening band, no projections and that's perfectly fine! In fact, the only voice you'll hear is the accordionist's, speaking a few words here and there to highlight a few songs. If you love Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli you'll flip out when you see these guys play. True masters of their craft. They performed 10 songs including a Django hit at the end (Minor Swing). Dorado was accompanied by his 21 year old son, Amati, who is already a master player and will certainly carry on the legacy along with Samson. The Faena theater is exquisite and the service is the best I've had in Miami. Super attentive and courteous. We were able to park for free on the street, although there are some metered parking spots nearby. One fact I loved is that the bar is right next to stage, the sound of a working bar and this music is sublime. All I can say, is what a magical night! Oh! take some cash with you so you can buy one of their albums and have them sign it for you at the end of the concert!

by sobederm on 12/14/16Faena Theater - Miami Beach

This remarkable ensemble captured the magical sound of gypsy jazz made world famous by Django Rheinhardt. They played many classics as well as their own improvisations - all to the delight of the audience that spent quite a few moments in standing applause.

    Dorado Schmitt Rocks It!

by jazzfanandfriends on 11/4/14Howard Theatre - Washington

Dorado Schmitt and his quintet turned in a stellar performance at the Howard Theater. Great musicians each given ample time to strut their stuff. Can't understand why Washington DC doesn't show more support for this group. New York Birdland Club can keep them booked for a week of sell out crowds and the Howard wasn't even half full. Sad that this group isn't gaining more traction here in DC among those who love jazz. They are really great and the Howard was a terrific venue for them.

Dorado Schmitt and the Django All Stars, YES

by JudyLB on 10/29/14Howard Theatre - Washington

Dorado Schmitt and the Django All Stars are unmatched in their field of music. As masters of their instruments, they played infectious music and you could tell they truly enjoy performing. Ludovic Beier does things with an accordion that I have never heard or seen before. The violinist, Perre Bouchard, is an inspiration to this aspiring gypsy violinist. Considering the cost of the tickets though, I would have liked the show to be a bit longer.

    Phenomenal musicianship!...

by rmaczis on 10/29/14Howard Theatre - Washington

A stage full of virtuosos who communicate seamlessly amongst themselves and deliver an inspiring performance every song that touches every individual in the audience. Truly the finest representation of Django's gypsy jazz. Spellbinding and engaging. Had me thinking "How can anyone possibly play that well???"…on Guitar, Upright Bass, Violin and Button Accordian…every instrument was worth a lifetime of clinics on how it's done!

    Dorado Schmitt

    by Cotu1234 on 10/29/14Howard Theatre - Washington

Music is like any art. If you are into jazz manouche you will love Dorado Schmitt and his band. He is not only great on guitar and violin, but also a Django look-alike. His band is great - the second guitar and bass player were spot on keeping the percussive rhythm characteristic for this music, while also filling out the sound nicely. The accordion and violin players were also really great. Howard theatre is a great venue, although the $10 minimum/per person was not advertised on the ticket or online. If you are like most people and need a drink with food, you will end up spending $30 on top of the price of the ticket. Food was good, but very expensive - $14 for an appetizer....
