DISHWALLA IN CONCERT:
Alt rock fans suffered a blow in 2006 when former Dishwalla frontman J.R. Richards left the group to pursue a solo career, a move that many worried would end the band's decade-long run. The heartbreak and concern didn't last long, however ñ singer Justin David Fox stepped in to fill Richards' shoes in 2008, and the reborn Dishwalla has been in peak form ever since. The band's longtime fans were quick to welcome Fox, and it's easy to see why - he's an incredible singer and performer, and he brings an intensity to the stage that helps underscore weighty yet uplifting tunes like "Counting Blue Cars" and "Once in a While." The rest of the band sounds better than ever, and their powerhouse performances leave no doubt that the best is yet to come from these veteran rockers.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Dishwalla formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 1994 and made their debut that same year with the song "Take Some Time," a Carpenters cover featured on the compilation album If I Were a Carpenter. The band released their debut album Pet Your Friends in 1995 and reached national audiences after the record's debut single "Counting Blue Cars" was featured in the alt-rock-inspired cult film classic Empire Records. The popularity of the movie's soundtrack and heavy radio airplay helped push the song to No. 1 on the Alternative charts, and in 1996 it won the Billboard Music Award for Best Rock Song. Dishwalla followed up in 1998 with their sophomore album And You Think You Know What Life's About, a polished release that added synths and drum loops to their post-grunge sound. The band kept busy in the early '00s with a live album, two holiday albums, and two studio albums (2002's Opaline and 2005's Dishwalla), but in 2006 frontman J.R. Richards left to pursue a solo project. He was replaced by singer Justin David Fox in 2008, and the new lineup has been thrilling fans with rousing performances ever since.
First two bands were very good. As far as Dishwalla? a sonic reduction at the mixing board of at least 30db would have had no perceptible negative effect on the overall show. Enjoyed the venue, the food but it was just too damned loud. Ever wonder why older musicians (like myself) wear hearing aids?
The venue was gorgeous! We were politely given a tour since the concert was not going to be held inside. And the club owner even have my mom and I tickets to a future show! Totally unexpected yet awesome! My only disappointment was I had absolutely no idea that Dishwalla's original singer J.R. Left the band :( While his replacement was not to shabby, he was still no J.R.!!!
Will never forget this experience!! So mesmerizing :D
First time seeing them in concert but it sure wont be the last. They are absolutely AMAZING!!! What a tight band. Way to put on a show guys. Thank you for the great experience.
