About

DIARRHEA PLANET IN CONCERT:

Southern punk rockers Diarrhea Planet have earned quite a reputation thanks to their provocatively crude name, raucous sound, and explosive, toilet humor-filled live shows. The band's gritty, grungy tunes are full of wailing guitar, blistering pounding drums, and scream-sung vocals about adolescent themes like "Kids" and the "Ghost With a Boner". It's potent stuff on record, but the band's insane, off-the-wall concerts are where it's really at. From their furious headbanging and off-color jokes to the epic guitar battles between the band's four ferocious axemen, Diarrhea Planet unleash an unabashed, unforgettable show every time they take the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Diarrhea Planet was formed in Nashville in 2009 by a trio of students at Belmont University, the largest Christian university in Tennessee. They started playing bawdy, rowdy punk music as a reaction to the school's "stuffy, self-serious" environment, and before long they had become a six-piece outfit armed with no less than four razor-sharp guitarists. Their debut EP Aloha -- a breakneck collection of songs recorded in a bedroom -- quickly racked up 10,000 downloads online, and they continued to build popularity with their unbridled live shows. The band made their album debut in 2011 with Loose Jewels, but it was their 2013 sophomore LP I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams that really earned them widespread attention. The record was a hit with critics and fans alike, leading to a string of major festival appearances at Bonnaroo, SXSW, and the Governors Ball Music Festival. In 2014 the band released the EP Aliens in the Outfield, a guitar-laden slice of testosterone-filled punk tunes that make a perfect addition to their blistering sets on tour.

Far and away the best live show I've ever seen

by easybakeandy on 12/9/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Diarrhea planet is much more than a band, they're a state of mind. Their name might seem stupid to some, hilarious to others, but one thing is indisputable - these guys are a well-oiled good-time machine. A quartet of impossible shredding, expertly belted out from behind the guitarists heads, with their teeth, and phallically thrusted toward the audience, all in an insanely joyful euphony. It's like having four lead guitarist/vocalists, working together in mellifluous unison to achieve the maximum possible level of head-banging harmony. The Rockettes' synchronized leglifts are sloppy by comparison. Pitchfork's Jayson Greene put it best: "I simply cannot stress this enough: if Diarrhea Planet are playing in a 100-mile radius of where you are sitting, go there." This is a live music experience you will not forget anytime soon. The band and crowd become one, a sweaty, screaming critical mass of rock. The morning after, your head still spinning and ears still ringing, you'll be buying tickets for their next show.

Diarrhea Planet had too many guitars

by ChrisRockbaby on 4/8/13Great Scott - Allston

The show was good until Diarrhea Planet came on, then it was just a bunch of garbled lyrics, chords, and people dancing. However, I still had a pretty good time. Boy Toy was actually pretty good, and Yale, Mass stunk worse than Diarrhea Planet (the band, not some extreme reference to a horrible smell)
