Detroit Tigers History

The Detroit Tigers originally formed in 1894 and were one of the original eight teams to take part in the inaugural American League season in 1901. The team currently plays in the AL Central Division, competing against nearby rivals such as the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox. Across more than a century, the Tigers have claimed four World Series titles and 11 AL Pennants. The Tigers have appeared in 11 iterations of the Fall Classic and came out victorious in 1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984, the latter behind the “Bless You Boys” roster.

The Tigers have a number of Hall of Fame inductees amongst their alumni, including legendary outfielder Ty Cobb, aka "The Georgia Peach," who still holds the major league record for highest career batting average. Fellow MLB legends like Al Kaline and Hank Greenberg also graced the roster, while members of the 1984 championship team have punched their ticket to Cooperstown, including pitcher Jack Morris and shortstop Alan Trammell.
