LA duo Deap Vally puts a sassy, empowered spin on the bare-bones garage rock sound of bands like The White Stripes. At the pair's live shows lead singer and guitarist Lindsey Troy crackles with punk rock attitude, tearing into nose-thumbing anthems like "Gonna Make My Own Money" with zeal as she hammers out fuzzed-out power chords and screaming riffs. Meanwhile her other half Julie Edwards holds it down on the drums, thrashing around wildly as she bangs out minimalist beats and chimes in with backing vocals. Los Angeles-born Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards met in the early '00s while taking a crochet class in the hip LA neighborhood of Silverlake, where they were both already active in the music scene. In summer of 2012 they released their first single "Gonna Make My Own Money", which they supported with high-profile performances at major UK festivals including Latitude and Leeds and Reading. Their raw sound and live-wire festival performances caught the eye of Island Records, and in 2013 they released their full-length debut album Sistrionix on the label. Since then they've rocked crowds at Glastonbury and Bonnaroo, shared bills with legends like Iggy Pop and Thurston Moore, and toured with big names like Muse and Peaches. With their long-awaited sophomore album generating buzz in 2016, Deap Vally has fans dying to catch some of their new material in concert.
