Dax Riggs Tickets

A great stripped-down acoustic performance by Dax with bass player doing harmonies. Excellent set of old and new songs, as well as a few covers. Amazing performance!!

I really enjoyed a much needed evening at a show with songs that were "Lullabies In The Key Of Death". I've been a fan of Dax since the "Agents Of Oblivion" album.

Dax always puts on an amazing show, he never disappoints. You never know what to expect with him and that night we got new songs, new covers and some old favorites. He's always so nice to his fans. Thanks for an amazing night in NYC again!

Commuting to see Dax Riggs was a bit of an adventure in the cold. The solitude of being surrounded by drunken merry makers during the entire trip, even within the venue, enhanced the vibe that he brought to the stage – which I will get into later. The opening band, The Dearloves from Brooklyn, had a very fun and upbeat stage presence that carried well with the non-metal fans in the crowd. Chances were that if someone was there to see Dax, they were also a die-hard metal fan, so those people either just stood there staring like drones or hung out at the bar. Personally, I enjoyed their energy later into their set with the highlight being “Red Leather Fucker” and the Sonic Youth tribute song. Their vibe overall was more suited for the drunken party-goers whom I could never identify with. Once Dax’s band hit the stage to set-up their instruments most of the cheery drunks had left leaving the leather clad, tattooed and proud band shirt bearers staring at the stage in silent reverence. A photographer weaved through the crowd to the front and I could just feel the anticipation growing within myself and those around me. To be honest, I can’t tell what song Dax started with or what he ended with, I got immersed and I forgot myself for a good… hour? Maybe more. The first song was cut a bit short because the bass was going out but once that issue was fixed, the music overtook me completely. I am the type of person that never sings out-loud, not even in the shower, but his music from just about every band he has had a hand in has helped me through so much in my life. It has accompanied through good and bad times, stopped me from breaking when I would have otherwise, that I started to sing along with the confidence that only headphone wearers possess when offending the senses of just about every pedestrian around them. I did not have to look at him to feel what he wanted to communicate and, indeed, I only caught glimpses of him in-between songs as I grinned like a damned fool up at him from my corner of the stage when I wasn’t feeling too shy. From what I saw, he was as caught up in his music as I was, the emotion that flowed through him was cathartic. Music has never had the effect on me live, it always enhances a feeling that is already there, but this time I felt all my walls crumble and I cried tears of gratitude. My heart needed to be purged of all the negativity that had accumulated there. Despite all that, I was still able to notice some technical details when I needed to reposition my feet on my sticky patch of the floor. The bassist, I’m assuming Kevin Fitzsimmons, did wonderful backing vocals that melded in almost seamlessly with Dax’s voice while the drumming by Charley Siess was nothing short of phenomenal. Amongst the songs that he played, I remember “I Hear Satan,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Night is the Notion,” “Let Me Be Your Cigarette,” “Like Moonlight,” “Gravedirt On My Blue Suede Shoes,” “Say Goodnight to the World,” “Demon Tied to a Chair in My Brain,” “Living is Suicide,” “Ouroboros,” amongst others a slew of others from his discography. There were two songs that they played that I did not recognize from his solo work; one had a very stoner/southern rock vibe while the other was some damned good heavy rock. As the night wore on, he told us that they (the band) loved us in-between some songs and thanked us for coming out to see them play. It felt so sincere, as did everything about him and the band. I just wish that my voice was loud and/or deep enough to carry over the crowd when I thanked him for coming to New York City. Instead, this review will have to do. Thank you, Dax for making music that can be felt by even some the most emotionally damaged individuals that I have known. On my way back home, Gene Clark‘s “Strength of Strings” was running through my mind on a constant loop. I think in some ways, the song describes the show better than I ever could. Music is an art-form and art is the essence of life.

Huge Dax fan. The quality was certainly there. The guy was amazing. But he seemed in a rush. He flew through a quick set and then rushed off the stage. No encore, it felt like it was over so fast. Everyone stood there like.... "That was it"??

Dax is one of those artists that sounds absolutely amazing on disc, and even better live. Even the more mellow songs like "Heartbreak Hotel" had such a MASSIVE sound live. He blows 'CD quality' clear out of the water.
