BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dawn Landes was born and raised in Louisville, KY, but her musical career didn't begin until she moved to New York to attend N.Y.U. After graduating and settling in Brooklyn, she released her 2005 debut album Dawn's Music, an auspicious release that established her as a bright new voice in folk music. She followed up in 2006 with the mini-album Two Three Four, and in 2008 she released Fireproof, a critically acclaimed record that she co-produced. In addition to her songwriting talents, Landes plays glockenspiel for roots music band Hem and is an accomplished studio engineer -- as a founding member of Saltlands Studio she has worked on albums by Justin Townes Earle, Josh Ritter, and Will Oldham. Amazing concert - the show should travel statewide

by Wanda on 4/17/23Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts (fka Duke Energy) - Raleigh

This show was a singular and singularly successful tour de force. It was part history with dates and narratives of women's struggles described along with the songs and music that kept women going through difficult times. It was national but also drew on North Carolina stories, with a focus on the oppressed women and girls who worked in textile mills for 14 hours a day. Dawn is a gifted and captivating singer and she drew with her an ensemble of talented singers. The entire production was full of life and energy and flashy costumes, too. When I saw the legendary Alice Gerrard's name on the program, I bought the ticket. It delivered beyond my wildest dreams. This show would travel the state -- or maybe the nation!
