DANCE GAVIN DANCE IN CONCERT:

Ever since its inception in 2005, post-hardcore outfit Dance Gavin Dance has been a wildly unpredictable band that's weathered several lineup changes, including more than a couple frontmen. However, fans will be delighted to find that the group's current roster is solid and they're more electrifying in concert than ever before. 2013 saw the addition of singer Tilian Pearson, whose high-pitched falsetto perfectly complements Jon Mess' screamo backing vocals. Guitarist and chief songwriter Will Swan's groovy yet technical riffs shine alongside Matt Mingus' precision drumming as the band roars through songs that borrow from hardcore, funk, soul, and hip hop. Their acrobatic instrumentation and quirky lyrics add up to rollicking live performances that'll have ticket buyers begging for more.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dance Gavin Dance was formed in Sacramento in 2005 by former members of Farewell Unknown and Ghost Runner On Third. The band self-released their debut EP, 2006's Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean, before inking a deal with Rise Records and releasing their 2007 full-length debut a;bi, Downtown Battle Mountain. Between 2008-2014 they released four more albums on Rise Records with a constantly fluctuating lineup that included former frontmen Kurt Travis and Jonny Craig. Their fifth album, 2013's Acceptance Speech, was the first album featuring vocalist Tilian Pearson, formerly of progressive rock outfit Tides Of Man. The band finished 2014 on a high note with a headlining tour of the US and recording sessions for their highly anticipated sixth studio album.

    AMAZING.

    by Joc Q. B. on 10/18/23

My first ever concert was swanfest In Philadelphia at the Mann. After 6-7 Other bands I was pretty tired but the moment DGD got on stage that feeling evaporated. From that moment to the end it was all incredibly good music from multiple Albums, I loved every song that was played and they PLAYED. 100% Recommended. Worth noting I head they were actually sick for a lot of the tour. Realizing the New York concert was delayed I quickly set up a means to go out and see them again at Pier 17 in New York and that showing was honestly less eventful than The Mann but equally as enjoyable. It also had a superior backdrop

    Never Miss

    by T. B. on 10/9/23

They never miss. Everytime they come in town as one of the opening acts or the main event DGD always delivers. I never miss a concert and this past one I found and reconnected with some good bands.

    Parking nightmare

by Zach on 10/6/23Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

We bought a digital parking pass which didn’t work when we got to the parking garage, we then had to text a code at the parking garage to get a pass but it cost full price. So we ended up paying for 2 parking passes and no one seemed to know how to resolve it. 0/10. Just buy your parking passes in person and don’t waste your money.

    Disappointed

by Darklord on 10/6/23The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

It was disappointing that they didn't alert us beforehand that one of the other bands wasn't gonna be performing even though that band was the whole reason for purchasing the ticket to this show and the opening band was way better than the band that followed them, they should have been swapped.

    Outrageous, Energetic, Fun

by Dave, chill dude on 10/5/23The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

This is the 4th time I've seen Dance Gavin Dance and they are still one of the best shows to go to. The energy is insane and it shows in the crowds enthusiasm. Everyone is there for it, everyone is dancing, everyone is singing. Its a good time. Thanks

Great show, Live Nation ruined it by overselling

by The Strawberry that Died on 10/5/23The Ritz - Raleigh

Dance Gavin Dance and their opening acts put on a stellar show. This review is in no way a reflection on their performance. However, I was extremely disappointed in Live Nation for overselling this event. Quite frankly, I'm done supporting Live Nation, and refuse to attend any more shows put on by them as a result of them overselling every single show I've attended over the past two years. There was absolutely NO space to move around and dance during this show. My fiancé actually fainted in the middle of the crowd because he didn't have enough space to even bend his knees. Neither of us were able to enjoy the show because we were constantly concerned for our safety. Additionally, people were so angry due to the lack of space when we tried to get drinks and return to our spot. It was nearly impossible to hold down a spot to stand with just the two of us. And it was straight up impossible to enjoy the show given that we could barely breathe and felt like a can of sardines. Live Nation clearly does not care about the safety of its patrons. All they want to do is sell out a venue and make people pay close to $100 for a 1x1 cubic ft. of space you can't move a single inch in. It's honestly despicable. It's apparent Live Nation didn't learn a damn thing from the Astroworld tragedy. After countless safety violations in multiple states across the country, I do not trust Live Nation to consider my safety as a patron. If I could go back in time and choose not to go to this show, and save my money, I would.
