About

CYMBALS EAT GUITARS IN CONCERT:

Cymbals Eat Guitars combine the best elements of emo and indie rock to arrive at a harrowing sound that always moves fans. The band’s live performances are a study in contrast, exploring the interplay between harmony and dissonance with a potent mix of power chords and swirling textures. Frontman Jeff D’Agnostico leads the sonic assault, alternating between cooing melodies and earnest screams to relay his tales of angst. Along with D’Agnostico’s fiery guitar playing, the rest of the band works up an atmospheric blend of effect-driven keyboards, melodic basslines, and shuffling drums. Ticket buyers looking for a unique blend of distorted riffs, heartbreaking vocals, and experimental soundscapes won’t want to miss Cymbals Eat Guitars wherever they perform.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Taking their name from Lou Reed’s description of The Velvet Underground’s sound, Cymbals Eat Guitars have always been destined to operate outside of musical conventions. Formed in 2007 by Staten Island high school friends Joseph D’Agnostico and Matthew Miller, the group quickly expanded to a quintet after posting a Craigslist ad in search of new members. Their independently recorded 2009 debut Why There Are Mountains generated buzz right out of the gates and was featured in Pitchfork’s Best New Music. Later that year Cymbals Eat Guitars grew their following substantially with a stunning performance at the Pitchfork Music Festival, going on to tour in support of bands like The Flaming Lips and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Indie label Barsuk signed the group and commissioned their 2011 follow-up album Lenses Alien, which was another critical success. The group continues to stun audiences with their touching and sonically adventurous material both in concert and on their stellar recorded material, including 2014’s LOSE.

    Cymbals Eat Guitars Rock Brooklyn

by Leadguitar on 9/18/16Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

This was a terrific show from a band that deserves to be making a bigger mark on the music radar. Since this was the kickoff show for the tour supporting their new album, "Pretty Years", they did mostly new songs. However, there was a fair share of songs from their previous (and EXCELLENT) album "Lose". So, if you're a fan of their early stuff, you might not get a lot of it on this tour. But in my humble opinion, the band has never been better. Just a show filled with great songs, great energy and a lot of fun is what you can expect on this tour. Very highly recommended.
