Troy Lee Coleman III grew up in Dallas and received his bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his nickname Cowboy Troy due to his ever-present Stetson hat. He caught the attention of execs at Warner Bros. with his self-released 2002 debut LP Beginner’s Luck, and in 2005 he made his major label debut with the album Loco Motive. The record was a success, peaking at No. 2 on the Country charts and cracking the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 thanks to popular lead single “I Play Chicken with the Train”, a collaboration with country duo Big & Rich. After co-hosting the fifth season of reality TV competition Nashville Star alongside singer-songwriter Jewel, Troy once again climbed the country charts with his 2007 album Black in the Saddle. Since then he’s continued to be a favorite with both country and rap fans thanks to genre-spanning albums like 2014’s King of Clubs, a Top 40 hit on the Rap charts.
