First off, the Chevalier Theatre has a charm and feel as if you’ve stepped back in time, in all the right ways. Acoustically and visually this was a tremendous venue to see Colin Hay weave his musical tale in.
Mr Hay may look a bit weathered but like a tested sea captain he has become more confident and savvy in his later years. His voice was almost too crisp and clear to believe it was live and not Memorex. He carefully maneuvered from story to song with genuine care, wit and humor. The crowd was a tad bit older and with their tattered prostrates, they got up to use the bathroom a little too often for my liking but besides that this show was impeccable. I hope to see Mr Hay again as trips like this one leave you feeling enriched from the music, the stories and a world that has since gone away that still resonates positivity and coolness. If I get to see him at the Chavlier, even better. A+++
