    Chills and a few tears

by Indianapolis on 7/18/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

I'd seen 'The Civic War' on stage before in full costume. The Ford's Theater production was fantasic. Cast in normal 2009 dress, but message and music was universal. The horrors of war and the emotional and physical toll it extracts makes this version especially strong because of the history of Ford's Theater. Unfortunately the museum part has not yet re-opened, but being in the theater where Lincoln was taken from us was magically. I think it should be an on-going production that runs when ever the theater is available. It would be a 'don't miss' stop for any DC visitor. So happy I was able to enjoy it. This version ended with pictures of gorund breaking African Americans including Pres Obama. Very moving.

The Civil War captured the human tragedy

    by Dweeb6 on 7/16/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

The Civil War captured the human tragedy of this terrible event in American History. The songs were evocative of personal loss and the horrors of war. The production brought the Civil War to life, and the actors did a fine job with the songs, many of which were memorable.

    Civil Wat was unforgettable

by ChaChing on 7/15/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

The performance was amazing. I took my parents for their 55th anniversary celebration and they absolutely loved it. The emotions of the two sides of the Civil War came through loud and clear. Certainly a performance you don't want to miss.

I attended with my sister while touring the D.C. area. We had front/center row seats. It was incredible! The staging was amazing; costumes/make-up were beautiful; the actors/singers were fabulous! We loved every moment! Thank you for capturing history in such an entertaining fashion.

    Civil War too Civilized

by Wazmann on 7/14/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

Expecting a bit more pagentry and era-focused, "Civil War" looked like it could have been taking place in rural America today. It wasn't until the end when uniforms were introduced that then subtly reminded you that this was supposed to be taking place in the 1860s. Actors and actresses were good, music OK good, and I liked the positioning of the band on the steps of the stage. All in all, a bit too slow for what I expected.

    The Civil War

by WillM on 7/14/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

I thought the play was a moving experience that looked at three sides of this country's struggle. The north, the south and the issue of slavery. It was not a typical play so the expectations I had going in led to some dissapointment.

The Civil War was like reliving history.

by Boise on 7/13/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

The Civil War was enjoyed both by adults and children in our group - very emotional and educational. We loved the play as well as sitting in the historic Ford Theatre. The study guide of the Civil War on the Ford Theatre web site was great - shared it with classroom.

    It was very powerful

    by Jennifer2121 on 7/13/09Ford's Theatre - Washington

It was an amazing show! My son is a huge Abraham Lincoln fan and he had such a great time in the Fords Theatre watching this show! They give tribute to Mr. Lincoln and the entire score is so moving it brought us to tears!
