About Cirque Zuma Zuma

Forget everything you think you know about the circus, because an encounter with Cirque Zuma Zuma is bound to completely rewrite your ideas about what a circus can and should be. Empty your mind of old ideas about elephants and painted clowns and twirling trapeze artists, and fill it instead with a dazzling array of acts that represent the music, magic, and movement of African traditions.

African Acrobats International, the company behind Cirque Zuma Zuma, makes it all possible by bringing African circus acts to audiences across the globe. They've sprinkled their singular brand of circus magic everywhere from Europe to Australia, leaving lots of sold-out houses and gobsmacked audiences in their wake.

They don't do it by simply slapping a new coat of paint on the sort of circus fare you're used to. The full Cirque Zuma Zuma experience involves so many astonishing elements, it's almost a challenge to absorb them all. If you've never come across Gabonese tumblers, Ethiopian contortionists, Zimbabwean percussionists, or Ethiopian foot jugglers — to name just a few of Cirque Zuma Zuma's specialities — then prepare to have your socks knocked off.

Don't forget to leave plenty of room in your mind to take in the human pyramids, hoop divers, kora players, and limbo, Zulu, and South African Gumboot dancers, because in this circus there's not even a moment's letup in the action. Before you've had a chance to recover from the lion dance, you find yourself agog at the Tanzanian acrobats performing incredible feats of balance.

Then there's the comedians, the Rolla Bolla act, the South African singers, the Icarian games, the pole acts, or any of the other Cirque Zuma Zuma delights. Needless to say, this circus is always a huge hit with kids, but it's truly an all-ages event, tapping into the sense of wonder that lives within all of us.

    Not worth your time

    by Zippo on 2/18/24

Even if it was free, you would be better off staying home and reading or watching 50 year old James Bond flicks. No story line and every act had a different song played very loudly. No fades, just bam a different song. They were also very annoying with begging for applause every time they did anything. Also, I have never been to Africa, but this didn’t seem African at all. More like old vaudeville acts from the 30s in the Catskills. We got free tickets and drove for 1 1/2 hours and left at intermission. Spend twice the money and go see Cirque du Soleil. Have I criticized it enough? Probably not, but I will quit anyway.

Nice performance but based on video I had seen prior to purc

by Liliana on 5/22/23St. George Theatre - Staten Island

Before purchasing tickets I watched a video which showed more than was presented the day I attended. Not sure if there are several Cirque Zuna Zuma performers and I saw a different one or it may have been the venue.

    Wasn't what I expected

by Silverbell on 2/15/23Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia Beach

The dancers wasn't dancers. They were off sync. It actually was an opening act for a circus.

    It was okay

by Eric on 2/15/23Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia Beach

I figured this would be vastly different from Cirque du Soleil, especially given the size of the venue, and after doing some internet research it seems that this particular production does not compare with other companies doing Cirque Zuma Zuma. My biggest complaint is the backing music for each act. Once the act was over, the music simply stopped and then started for the next act instead of fading out or transitioning to the next act. This seemed very "high school" in nature and not very professional. Overall, the performance seemed disjointed as nothing really went together as a whole; it was just one act after another demonstrating balance or agility or spinning things.

    Not good

by Boss on 2/15/23Sandler Center For The Performing Arts - Virginia Beach

When I looked the show up on YouTube and Instagram it looked amazing. None of those acts were there. The show was nothing like what it claims to be. I felt like it was false advertisement. I would not recommend.
