About

About Cincinnati Music Festival

Cincinnati is proud of its rich musical history. Most notably, the Queen City was home to the storied label King Records, whose imprint, Federal, issued the hit single "Please, Please, Please" from James Brown's first band, the Famous Flames.

It's quite fitting, then, that Cincinnati is also home to the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G, one of the longest-running (and most successful) R&B and soul concerts in the U.S. Cofounded by promoter Dino Santangelo and George Wein initially as a jazz-focused festival, the multi-day event now consistently draws the genre's biggest names. For example, Brown eventually performed at the event — as have other soul and R&B luminaries, including Whitney Houston and her cousin, Dionne Warwick, along with Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Patti LaBelle, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Al Green, Maxwell, and Ella Fitzgerald.

The Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G dates back to 1962, when it launched as the Ohio Valley Jazz Festival. The inaugural year of the fest boasted amazing talent — to name a few players, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, and Sonny Rollins. The event moved around a bit in its early years, first from the Carthage Fairgrounds to Crosley Field — where, in 1964, John Coltrane, Count Basie, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin, and Dizzy Gillespie performed — and later from there to Riverfront Stadium, before the event eventually settled in to its current location of Paul Brown Stadium. Along the way, the concert expanded its focus to include soul, R&B, and even hip-hop, which grew its audience even more.

The festival also became known for many years as the Macy's Music Festival before being rechristened the Cincinnati Music Festival Presented by P&G in 2015. What hasn't changed, however, is a commitment to booking top-notch talent that reaches multiple generations of music fans in Cincinnati and beyond.

    A Hot Mess Venue

    by JWQueen1 on 12/23/23Paycor Stadium - Cincinnati

I attended both the Friday and Saturday night shows. This venue is not user friendly for physically challenged individuals. This was my second year attending this venue. I missed the first two acts waiting at the entrance for a wheelchair attendant. A male attendant told me to wait and he would come back after taking my friend to her seat. He never returned for me, but I saw him helping someone else. A few attendants had no clue where my seat was located until I was so fed up, I had two supervisors to eventually help me to my seat. The CMF has great performers, but I wish they could perform somewhere else.

Best Grown Folks good time for your bucks!

by DavisRN on 9/6/23Paycor Stadium - Cincinnati

The ground seats are the best seats in my opinion. Being up close, and almost personal enhanced the whole concert experience. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the performers....WOW! Best CMF to date!

    Concert Review

    by TJ on 7/31/23

This was my first experience with the festival. The location and lineup was awesome. The information provided during the concert was great. One major issue was the camera people during the concert. With the performances on dual stages people relied upon the screens to see the performances not the concert goers. It was sad to consistently see other people and not BabyFace, Al Green, Jodeci, and everyone else we paid to see. I will return next year but hopefully will see more of the entertainment,

    Couldn't see the artists

    by Morgan on 7/28/23

Unfortunately, two inconsiderate girls stood up on the chairs directly in front of us and even after being asked, they would not get down. Looked around for someone that worked there that might be able to help but couldn't find anyone. Four people behind us were smoking cigars and blew them directly at us the entire time. Security should have done more.

    Babyface wrote everything

    by JusJuice on 7/28/23

This was one for the books, I enjoyed every minute of every performance. It was awesome to see Jodeci in their element The P-Funk absolutely left me FUNKED UP, and Jilly from Philly didn't disappoint. Dave Chappelle was a pleasant surprise. He introduced Snoop, who was great as was Babyface who sang most of my playlist. He has literally written everything. Midnight Star rocked in their salmon suits and Norman Brown shole played that Gui-tar! Avery Sunshine did her thing and I can't lie I missed Gerald Albright. I did NOT miss the Reverend Al Green who took us to church and then dropped us off on the road to Love & Happiness. He hit that "Yeeeeeeee"and it was a wrap. I LOVED it! I'm ready for 2024
