CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE IN CONCERT:

Virtuoso jazz bassist Christian McBride comes from a long line of accomplished bass players, and it shows. At his concerts McBride plays with the elegance and poise of a true veteran, demonstrating the impressive chops that have earned him three Grammys and landed him on more than 300 recordings. From collaborations with James Brown and Sting to his latest role as big band leader, McBride possesses a timeless showmanship that he'll bring to the stage on his upcoming tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

During his childhood, Philadelphia-born Christian McBride was mentored by his father and great uncle -- both talented bass players. Hailed as a teen prodigy, McBride joined jazz saxophonist Bobby Watson's group at age 17 before going on to play in the bands of numerous other legends including Benny Golson, Milt Jackson, and J.J. Johnson. He made his album debut as a solo player in 1995 with Gettin' To It, and has released more than ten solo albums and toured extensively since then. Over the course of his decorated career he has collaborated with a number of jazz luminaries including Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock and played as a sideman with such diverse artists as Paul McCartney, Queen Latifah, and Celine Dion. Back on the road McBride will treat ticket buyers to his unforgettable musicianship on a string of highly anticipated dates.

    Late but worth it…

by BassLadyJo on 11/23/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

I came from Philly and every local train was Late! I walked from NJ Penn Station to NJPAC just in time to see the FINALE! In spite of the “Odyssey” the show was worth all the trials and tribulations! Seeing Savion & Christian perform together was historic! More please!

    Fantastic musicians

by Lou on 2/14/23Fort Mose State Park - St. Augustine

4 of the best musicians I’ve ever seen. Tho for me, the drummer stole the show. But each and every guy (they are all guys) was a virtuoso jazz musician. Very enjoyable show. The opening act was great too guitarist & sax player who worked together very well.

    I expected more...

by coboeb on 11/27/17New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

I have been a HUGE fan of Dianne Reeves for about 25 years, traveled to see her several times. This time, she did not perform much at all, and there was a lot of just shooting the breeze and chatting on stage. She didn't sing any of my favorites. She even said that concerts were like "FREE", because of all the travel. Well, I understand the toll that travel can take on anyone, but really? I really was a bit disappointed, although there were a few good spots, with the base player (McBride). Dianne even said she doesn't read reviews. So, I say to her that she should perform like big stars do on stage! While I can't compare Diane to the likes of Janet Jackson, I went to Janet's concert a couple of weeks later, and Janet PERFORMED!!! That's what I expect from a singer! Diane just sat there and hummed a few songs. She doesn't even dress for the occasions. I was really disappointed. It was good seeing Dianne in good health and all, but I just didn't get what I expected. I guess she is tired. IDK. Mr. McBride, you tried and I did like your part. This just wasn't good overall. I'm so sorry I feel this way, but based on comments from other concert go'ers, they had the same concerns.

Awesome Centennial Celebration for Dizzy & Ella

by JHJ125 on 11/17/17New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

BRAVO! How fortunate we were to be a part of the joyful audience engaged by the spectacular tributes to the great legends of jazz -- Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald. Lizz Wright, Valerie Simpson, Regina Carter, Gregory Porter and all of the musicians in the amazing big band conducted by Christian McBride transported us back to the great performances of these jazz icons. I'm sure Dizzy and Ella were happy ancestors and we were happy supporters of America's greatest cultural contribution. The Moody Jazz Festival should end every year with such a magnificent commemorative ritual!
