About

After 25 years, CHICAGO is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another and the most astonishing dancing you've ever seen. No wonder CHICAGO has been honored with 6 Tony Awards®, 2 Olivier Awards, a Grammy®, and thousands of standing ovations. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary --you've got to come see why the name on everyone's lips is still...CHICAGO.

    We had a blast!

by Terri L on 2/24/23CIBC Theatre - Chicago

The show was very entertaining! The theater seats were narrow and too close. The incline waa extreme steep and almost gave me vertigo. I will never go there again.

    HIGE Dissappointment

    by Mama2004 on 2/1/23CIBC Theatre - Chicago

I am not a local, but I do feel very strongly that if you’re going to see the musical Chicago in Chicago, it Hass to be the absolute best! It’s iconic! I was so excited to see the musical in the city that it was written for. it Hass to be hands-down one of the worst musical productions I’ve ever seen. I would’ve walked out at intermission if I didn’t have a child with me who really wanted to stay and see the rest, there were no sets, barely any props and I don’t know how putting the orchestra on stage in a huge black box was a good idea. The entire show happened in the 5 feet of stage that was left in front of the orchestra box. Maybe we were supposed to be impressed that they can do an entire Broadway musical on a 5 foot landing strip and I just didn’t get it. The acting was OK and the voices were OK. The costumes were pretty bad. I just had an expectation for Chicago to show up and show out with its musical namesake but it’s apple fell FAR from the tree of excellence. Like, our child’s HS rendition was better.

    Downtown Chicago

by Bobby K on 2/1/23CIBC Theatre - Chicago

The overall experience was quite good-----parking was exceptionally quick and much appreciated in not having to worry about where to find a garage and "overpay". Our group thought the ticket pricing was a little on the heavy side for our seat locations and even paying more for a better view was still on the high side. In our estimation, the production was not as good as others we have previously seen for this same play in suburban locales. Loved the idea of the orchestra being behind the performers instead of below the stage; thought this worked well for the theme of the play. Underwhelmed by Velma and Billy's on stage presence, but we thought Roxie and the dance troupe were excellent.

Chicago @ CIBC- a Middle School Production

by Ben on 2/1/23CIBC Theatre - Chicago

This show was absolutely a let down. I am amazed that you could call this “Broadway.” The choreography had as many steps as one could expect in a middle school production and was most likely led by the mayor of the town in footloose. Seriously, I’m pretty positive the choreographer only had an understanding of 2 levels and only had a true mastery of the box step and the grapevine. Conveniently, the acting matched this style as they carried the same stage presence as a group of 5th graders serving detention. In the song “I can’t do it alone,” the actor portraying Velma Kelly literally used her hands to demonstrate her doing a backflip. She might as well have sung the song while demonstrating the hand jive. You might think, there were at least some theatrics, right? No. The closest to a stunt was when the Hungarian girl was sentenced to death, and then she climbed up a ladder, they pulled the ladder off stage, and dropped a noose from the ceiling. So if you ever have the chance to seeing this touring production of Chicago, don’t. I would highly recommend to instead ask a child to draw the cover of the movie with crayons, then play the soundtrack while looking at the drawing. It will be much more riveting and at least include a slight amount of vibrancy and energy, certainly more than this abysmal piece of “theatre.”

    Fair

by Sk on 2/1/23CIBC Theatre - Chicago

I’m always impressed with the talent of any show I attend. This one was no exception. Love the music and chemistry between actors. I did not care for the venue. Sound wasn’t great. Smaller overall than others and several obstructed views. Not sure I would return to CINC theater unless it was something I absolutely wanted to see.

    Great Show, Terrible Sound

    by Music11 on 1/31/23CIBC Theatre - Chicago

I love the music and the Fosse choreography. The performers all did an excellent, but the sound quality in the theater was horrible. It was hard to hear the singers over the orchestra. I kept wondering if something was wrong with my hearing, but during intermission my friends all complained about the sound. This seriously detracted from the experience. I think the show is worth seeing but maybe try a different venue.
