Chicago Cubs History

The Chicago Cubs are one of the foundational teams of the National League, joining for the inaugural 1876 season as the Chicago White Stockings and later adopting the Cubs name in 1903. The Cubs have one of the deepest and most loyal fanbases in Major League Baseball, despite suffering a championship drought that lasted a league-record 108 years. The Cubs have won three World Series titles, in 1907, 1908, and 2016, along with 17 National League Pennants and six NL Central Division titles.

Over the years, the Cubs have produced dozens of Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, including former first baseman and manager Cap Anson, two-time MVP slugger Ernie "Mr. Cub" Banks and the double-play combo of Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers and Frank Chance. Ten players have earned the MVP while wearing a Cubs uniform, most recently with Kris Bryant in 2016.  Bryant also won Rookie of the Year in 2015, the same year pitcher Jake Arrieta received the Cy Young Award.

Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field

Since 1916, the Cubs have played their home games at storied Wrigley Field, which has also been known as Weeghman Park and Cubs Park. The stadium, which notoriously didn't get lights until 1988, seats more than 41,000 fans and is known for its ivy-covered outfield walls. Fans await as Wrigley Field raises the white “W” flag for victory.
