The music was marvelous (even if there was an excess of x-mas tunes, considering this was not billed as a Christmas concert)), but the performers would better serve their audience if they appeared to enjoy the experience rather than endure it. Both Joanie Madden and Deidre (the singer), as well as the step dancers and Don Stiff, all seemed to take pleasure in performing. The other musicians, especially the accordion player, seemed to be either exhausted from too long a tour, tired from the long day, or just plain bored to be here. They were all very talented performers, but it was dispiriting to listen to musicians who appeared to generally not be enjoying themselves. Cognitive dissonance to say the least!
All in all the experience was much enriched by the high spirits of Ms. Madden and her amazing tin whistle and wonderful sense of humor, Mr. Stiff and his marvelous voice, and the talented and joyful step dancers.
