We loved Score! With Chan Poling only wish it had been longer.

    conceptually good

I have been a fan of Chan Poling since the 1970's and have never been disappointed in anything he has done. This show had a feeling that something went wrong. The music was excellent and playing music scores from forgotten movies, plays, etc. is a great concept. The show however, was far too short. forty minute first set followed by a break and a 20 minute second set. I am sure the shortened show had something to do with the lack of ticket sales for the event. I heard about 500 were sold. We thought an explanation would have been nice. Otherwise the music, while not nearly enough for me to consider a show, was very good.

Really enjoyed it, but truly felt too short. Female vocalist were a great addition.

    Score! did not, really

by JazzFanDeb on 5/23/11Fitzgerald Theater - St Paul

While my husband and I enjoyed the music, it was TOO SHORT! If MPR was doing an hour-long radio show, they should have said so, instead of advertising it as a concert. We expect a concert to be at least 90 minutes. The music actually amounted to 55 minutes, with an unnecessary intermission which appeared to be there just to pad the program and sell drinks. Also, some advertised guests did not appear. Chan Poling was personable and funny, as usual. One of the 2 female vocalists could sing beautifully, but the one who more or less yelled the song from The Parent Trap was not to our taste, although apparently she has some fans. The visuals from the movies enhanced the show. Finally, the music was not as daring or innovative as we had expected. So the concert was OK, but disappointing.

The best of the best. Most enjoyable. Great selecton of music and even better execution. Let's do it a gain.
