CHAKA KHAN IN CONCERT:
The Queen of Funk has no equal: Chaka Khan is, indeed, a living legend. Her live performances are energetic histories of her four-decade long career in music -- from her funk days through her jazz and R&B heydays. Her profound voice carries her fans "Through the Fire," and "Ain't Nobody" loves them better than Chaka. Although Chaka's appearances are less frequent than in her heyday, she delivered big at her 2013 shows, wowing fans and building excitement for her select dates in 2014. Make no mistake: she's got it. She's still got it.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Chicago-born Yvette Marie Stevens came up in rough South Side housing projects before she rose to fame under the name Chaka Khan. Her grandmother introduced her to jazz music at an early age and instilled a life-long love of the genre. As she grew up, she bounced around all-girl singing groups and small bands before joining the Black Panthers and changing her name. While performing in a local band in 1972, she was poached by a new group called Rufus, and with her at the lead, the group signed a major contract with ABC Records just a year later. After several years with Rufus, she proved to be just as talented on her own with the 1978 solo debut Chaka, featuring the ubiquitous hit “I’m Every Woman”. All said and done, she has won ten Grammys and sold over 200 million records worldwide.

Nonstop party. Chaka hit the stage partying and blowing us away. Dancing, smiling and engaging. The audience couldn't get enough of her. The love she received, she gave back 10 fold. 70 where?
The Luckman Theater is a great venue. This was my first time. The staff were very nice. Chaka Khan was excellent. She looked, sounded and moved wonderfully. Chaka gave us all the highs, mids, and lows we so love. The band and background vocalists were on point as usual.
Chaka was fantastic! Her voice is in unbelievably good shape for someone who’s been touring & recording for over four decades. Her singing and great dancing were infectious, and she interacted graciously w her audience.
Chaka Khan is simply magical. Her artistry is unmatched. As she reminded us, she has been singing these countless hits for 50 years, her effortless delivery was as if time has stood still. Chaka was as powerful as ever, as beautiful as ever and to mention charming and witty too! The band was awesome and the background singers were on point while supporting the exhibition of musical excellence. We all sang along and enjoyed a night in the exquisite Luckman Fine Arts Complex completely enthralled by the musical stylings of the one an only Chaka Khan.
...either I'm experiencing hearing loss or the sound systems at the music concert events are not what I expect. The performer was on point for the entire show. The band was one of the best I've seen. The back up singers were also very good but I could barely hear them. If I was sitting in the Orchestra section I could probably hear every note; however, it seems that the only speakers are center stage Orchestra or peripheral left and right stage. If I didn't know the songs, I wouldn't be able to tell what the artist was singing. Again, it may be me but I've noticed this in several venues where seating in non-orchestra is affecting my true enjoyment of the show.
The venue was quaint and easily accessible. Chaka Khan’s performance, from start to finish was phenomenal.
Ms. Chaka Khan did NOT disappoint. Everything- her energy, her voice, the band was 100% perfect. She performed for over a hour and I could’ve watched & listened even more. The venue was great too. Super easy & convenient parking.
Chaka Khan has been my favorite for 50 years. She always gives 150 percent. The show was amazing with her audience on their feet dancing from the beginning until the end. Chaka Khan is the ultimate performer!

Ive been a Chaka fan since I was in my 20's (in my 60's now). I love her. She was great and the Hard Rock sound system is outstanding. The sound system is like the the seasoning on chicken!! LOL! It makes the show. Sly rocked the house too. Great show!!!
