About

CAYUCAS IN CONCERT:

Indie rock sibling duo Cayucas has been a critical favorite ever since the 2013 release of their debut album Bigfoot. Twin brothers Zach and Ben Yudin specialize in a laid-back yet highly rhythmic indie pop sound that owes as much to their native California as it does to West African music. At their live shows Zach delivers his evocative lyrics with Golden-State cool while Ben’s nimble basslines keep the group’s infectious grooves ever moving forward. Cayucas is a duo in the studio, but on tour they bring their syncopated, melodically complex songs to life with the help of a talented drummer and skilled guitarist. From the playful vocal whoops of “Cayucos” to the spindly surf guitar of “Moony Eyed Walrus”, Cayucas transports ticket buyers to a sunny island paradise every time they take the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Cayucas began in 2011 as Oregon Bike Trails, the solo recording project of Santa Monica, CA-based singer-songwriter Zach Yudin. After adding his twin brother Ben on bass the following year, Yudin renamed the project Cayucas and the duo released their debut single “Cayucos/Swimsuit”. They signed to venerable indie label Secret Canadian, and in 2013 they released their full-length debut albumBigfoot. The record was a critical success, drawing them out for extensive touring and leading Stereogum to name Cayucas one of the best new bands of the year. With expectations running high, Cayucas delivered with their 2015 sophomore album Dancing at the Blue Lagoon, another acclaimed release that has fans dying to catch them on tour.

Cayucas didn't even pretend to care about the show

by trezzy69 on 8/3/15Bowery Ballroom - New York

Where to start? Maybe it was the lead singer and lead guitarist never making eye contact. Maybe it was the 45- minute show (into the encore). Maybe it was the lead singer acting like he was on ludes. Maybe it was the awful sound (way way way too low). Or maybe it was the band standing there and going through the motions. Whatever it was, the crowd tuned out the show by the third song and the chatter overwhelmed the music. And you couldn't fault the crowd b/c the "show" onstage was so dismal. Didn't help that the opener, four teens in a band called Hibou, played loudly and with passion. Huge disappointment, especially on NYC on a Friday.

Great for super fans and spectators

by Smitel02 on 7/9/13Mercury Lounge - New York

Cayucas has this infectious sunshine energy that makes it hard to be anything less than content at one of their shows. I just recently started listening to the band and the sold-out crowd seemed to be full of superfans and those who maybe knew a couple of songs. Overall their spirit and humble nature (the singer said it was their first show in NYC) won the audience over, along with their fun California vibes.
