About

Since the incredible success of her breakthrough hit single “Back It Up” in 2009, Caro Emerald's career has gone from strength to strength. The song by the Dutch star, originally named Caroline van der Leeuw, became the most played song on major Dutch radio stations during 2009, sitting in the Top 40 chart for an impressive 12 weeks. The follow up release, a single entitled “A Night Like This,” went all the way to No. 1. Combining soulful jazz vocals with live instrumentation and catchy beats, her unique style has made Caro Emerald a hit around the world. Already immensely popular in her native Netherlands, an appearance on the popular British New Year's Eve show Jools Holland's Hootenany in 2011 gained her fans in Britain, Ireland, and beyond.
Her debut album, Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor, took influences from a wide range of sources, creating the unique style her fans now love. Released in early 2010, the album went straight to No. 1 in the Dutch Top 100 album chart, where it stayed for an incredible 27 weeks. This set an impressive new record, displacing Michael Jackson, who was the previous holder of the longest stay at No. 1. The success didn't end there. In total, Caro Emerald's debut album spent an astounding 104 weeks sitting in the album charts, only being removed by a rule that stated albums can only be in the listings for a maximum of two years.
Even later, after this rule was removed, Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor went straight back in at No. 8. The album is built on sounds replicating Hollywood's golden age, using elements of jazz, tango and mambo dancing, but combined with hot beats and catchy lyrics, which are very much contemporary. “A Night Like This,” the next single to be released into the charts from the album, peaked in the Dutch Top 100 chart at No. 1 and earned Gold certification in Italy and Switzerland plus platinum status in Germany.
The second album, The Shocking Miss Emerald, was released in 2013 to widespread acclaim. Reaching No. 1 in both the Netherlands and on the UK charts, its mixture of smoky jazz with modern style has been loved by her fans. Her 2013 successes were topped by an appearance at The Royal Variety Performance, performing for the Royal Family, and an extensive series of shows around the country.

I loved getting to see Caro Emerald perform live, especially knowing this was her first time in the US. Fun energy and nice style to go with it. Hopefully she gets a chance to come back again (soon). Would have preferred a little bit less waiting around for things to start. The band sounded good and when the mic was picking her up she sounded great, just needed a bit more volume there to hear her over the brass.
