Carlos Nunez was born in the Galicia region of Spain in 1971, where he began playing the bagpipes at age eight. By his teens he was performing at festivals, and later he was quickly acknowledged as a virtuoso during his studies at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid. After performing for several years with the Irish folk outfit The Chieftans, he made his solo debut in 1996 with the album Brotherhood of the Stars -- Spain's first Celtic traditional recording to reach platinum sales. Over the course of ten more acclaimed albums Nunez established himself as the country's preeminent Celtic musician, leading to worldwide touring and collaborations with luminaries like Ry Cooder and Sinead O'Connor.
