About

Indie-pop/electro duo Capital Cities has blossomed from a couple of Los Angeles-based jingle writers who met on Craigslist to a ticket-selling sensation on tour with other of-the-moment indie acts like Fitz and The Tantrums and Alt-J. It’s virtually impossible to turn on a Top 40 radio station without hearing the band’s danceable synthpop single, “Safe and Sound,” not to mention the promotional campaigns it pops up in for brands like HBO, Smart Car and Microsoft.

The pair, comprised of composers and songwriters Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, unveiled their first studio album, “In a Tidal Wave of Mystery,” in the summer of 2013 via Capitol Records/Lazy Hooks. On tour to promote the indietronica release, Capital Cities added bassist Manuel Quintero, guitarist Nick Merwin, drummer Channing Holmes and trumpeter Spencer Ludwig to the live shows, which included sold-out concerts at New York City’s Irving Plaza, as well as two nights at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre.

    Capital cities awesome

by Mattsunmusic on 6/9/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Capital cities was great, but your website not mentioning that it was a free show is very disappointing... I ended up paying 130 for two seats while the free people sat just a little above me or right in front of the stage standing and being able also to dance.

    Dance Party

    by Sam7362648 on 12/22/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

This concert was straight up amazing. Warpaint was a lovely opening band of all girls which I did not know when I showed up. A friend of mine and I met 4/5 glass animals band members. We danced our socks off and sang loudly. The new golden 1 center venue is very nice. Milky Chance has been on our list since we came across them and the Naked and Famous too. We previously saw Glass Animals at Ace of Spades. Capital Cities was a real crowd pleaser. I loved dancing to their new and old songs. An unforgettable night for sure.

    OFF THE HOOK!

by CorvoKennedy on 12/17/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

Electric Christmas was a BLAST! Everyone was dancing and singing! Great vibes and great food! Glass Animals stole the show in my opinion. I've been fan since their first album dropped and seeing them live has made me a forever fan. The sound quality from all the bands was excellent! I loved The DJ during intermission and the tweets on the big board were hilarious!!! I would totally go again!

    Way Too Pricey!

by ExceptionElle on 12/16/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

While the show itself was fun, it wasn't the usual spectacular Capital Cities we were used to (new trumpet player?), and the drinks were ridiculously expensive! No more shows for us at Golden 1...

    Uneven Line Up Awful Venue

by Sactokaren on 12/14/16Golden 1 Center - Sacramento

Warpaint and Capital Cities play real instruments and do not rely on prerecorded and techno gimmicks for live performances. The Naked and Famous sounded good, but Glass Animals and Milky Chance had their vocals drowned out by the techno noise. The new arena was sold out only because the upper level was closed off. The seats are uncomfortable and cheaply made. The restroom closest to our seats had only 4 stalls (women's); the line was long and so was the wait. Memorial Auditorium was a much better venue and last year was a much better lineup.
