    Cape Town Syphmony Orchestra Pity

by SABornIowanBred on 3/1/11STEPHENS AUDITORIUM - Ames

Well bad on me for thinking they would play traditional South African music.....very sad when little 'ol South African proudly and excitedly takes people to the concert only to have to listen to the classics. Don't get me wrong that was amazing, but you travel over 6000 miles across the ocean you could give a little cultural experience to my fellow Iowans. Oh well I supported the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra and wish them well on their journey but let them play at least one South African tune next time PLEASE!

    Love a well played Strad

by Datawonk on 3/1/11STEPHENS AUDITORIUM - Ames

This concert was a winner, albeit with a modest drawback. The first winner was the Stradivarius and the way Mr. Quint played it. The range, tone, sheer beauty of the sound was worth my 90 miles drive partly through freezing rain to get to Stephen Auditorium. From my perch in the balcony the horn section too often drowned out everything else. These guys were blasting. I assume this has to do with the acoustics of the auditorium. I wonder if the conductor heard it the way I did?
