About

CAMERA OBSCURA IN CONCERT:

Scottish darlings Camera Obscura have been a staple on the indie rock scene ever since their 2001 debut album Biggest Bluest Hi Fi established them as modern torchbearers of the genre's more wistful, melancholy varieties. At the band's stylish live shows, the plaintive vocals of Tracyanne Campbell float whimsically over the band's jangly guitar and percussion work, creating a lush atmosphere that lets gems like "Eighties Fan" and "I Love My Jean" really shine.  The songs may be dreamy, but the band never gets lost in the clouds -- they treat their material with a refreshing energy that never fails to satisfy on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Camera Obscura formed in Glasgow in 1996 and made their recording debut in 1998 with "Park and Ride". Their 2001 full-length debut Biggest Bluest Hi Fi was produced by Belle & Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch, and was a hit with critics and fans alike for heavily-blogged tracks like the starry-eyed "Eighties Fan". In 2006 they made their first appearance on the UK Albums Chart with their third LP Let's Get Out of This Country, an effort that landed them a deal with legendary British label 4AD. In 2013 the band released their fifth album Desire Lines, cracking the Top 40 in the UK and thrilling fans around the world with a series of unforgettable concerts in support of the record.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"What a fabulous voice and band! A pure pleasure to experience."

"Wow! This show was fantastic! Everything sounded pretty much perfect. The trumpet player/random percussionist was so much fun to watch... looked like he was having a great time."

"Their stage setup was indeed simple. nothing fancy and no backdrop. but the performance was definitely amazing with them playing most of their hit singles including 'French Navy'. Tracyanne was as vogue as always and the whole band displayed outstanding showmanship."

    Sound quality was awesome!!

by karnenyen on 7/23/14Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Great live act, crystal clear sound quality, probably one of the best live mixes I've ever heard, and I've seen hundreds of shows. Great pop song writing and some of the best stuff you'll never hear on (American) radio again. For any avid pop music fan, the only thing comparable to seeing this show is listening to their records which I suggest you buy immediately, as they are instant classics. Camera Obscura are dynamite.

    "Looks Could Kill"!

by Vicrattlehead on 9/6/13The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Saw them live at the Wiltern in LA and it was an amazing show. Call me crazy but they are an energetic band that makes the crowd go wild. Fans of Camera Obscura, go see them because you're missing out!

    Sadly short

by TSchatt on 7/17/13Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I discovered Camera Obscura via Pandora and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. They still are. But I really expected more from this show. They played for a mere 50 minutes...PERHAPS a whole hour and basically said "oops...this is the last song...sorry". Of course the crowd clamored for more. So they did come back, but only for a 3 song encore. Maybe the lead singer wasn't feeling well (I kind of got that vibe from her) but there seemed to be very little enthusiasm from the band (except for the trumpet player...that guy was awesomely energetic) and little connection with the audience. Sad to say that overall it was a letdown. There were So many great songs of theirs that they never even played...

the show came and went. that is my only gripe. like, it felt as if they played 6 songs and then they were like finished with their show.
