Rating: 4 out of 5Buffalo in Utica
by Michas on 7/28/12The Stanley - UticaI'm not sure if it was their standard repetoire or if someone told them Utica was a conservative audience, but the Buffalo Philharmonic went for safe classics in their 7/26 performance at the Stanley. Smetana's "Bartered Bride" overture, a Mozart violin concerto & that old warhorse, Dvorak's "New World" symphony. If the program erred on the side of caution (for my tastes anyhow) it was good to hear "classical" music performed well in this venue after what seems like a very long dry spell. The only negative for me was the Utica audience's typical failure to wait until the end of the piece to applaud, instead applauding after EVERY movement.
