About

About Made in America Festival

There's only one Jay-Z, the self-made billionaire who channeled an impoverished life of crime into a prolific hip-hop career — and ultimately one of the most impressive and improbable personal fortunes in the entire world. There's also only one Made in America Festival, the annual genre-spanning musical extravaganza curated by Jay-Z himself and produced by Live Nation.

Jay founded Made in America in 2012, and it's taken over Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway every year since (with a concurrent appearance in Los Angeles in 2014). His purpose, as Jay explained in Ron Howard's 2013 documentary about the festival, is to unite the people of America under the banner of our shared musical culture. "It's a bigger idea than just a concert," Jay said. "We all have the same struggles, the same dreams."

When it comes to scoring the talent for each year's festival, it helps that Jay-Z has perhaps the deepest Rolodex in all of pop culture. He and his wife Beyonce have both performed in past years, of course, as have blockbuster artists like The National, Pearl Jam, Rihanna, Run-DMC, Bassnectar, Kanye West, and Coldplay.

Made in America 2018 featured the fest's most robust incarnation yet, spanning two days in Philadelphia and headlined by Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monae, and Miguel. With that kind of star power serving as the festival standard, 2019 promises another world-class lineup, returning to Ben Franklin Parkway August 31 and September 1.

The 2019 festival again will host Cause Village, a public area where 50-plus charitable organizations come together as a hub for social action. The festival also will have the midway rides and games, art installations, and mega-budget stage and light production that make Made in America the most unique and spectacular festival experience in the country.

Ticket Master never sent me my ticket

by Jmastro on 9/20/21Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

I never received my ticket from Ticketmaster. I contacted them several times via email and never received a response. I tried calling the customer service number and I was put on hold and no one ever picked up.

    Tickets

by David Viscuso on 9/8/21Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

Would have been perfect if my 4 tickets were refunded to me as I requested as I was trapped in Thailand due to COVID-19. I try to attend every two years and was quite disappointed when nobody responded to my inquiries. That a nice chunk of money down the drain for nothing.

    Better Security Training

by MyeshaG on 11/8/17Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

I would recommend allowing umbrellas if bad weather occurs. I had a security guard aggressively approach me inappropriately for having an umbrella in the pouring rain. Very disappointed by that. She grabbed me she cursed at me. Very unpleasant. I suggest better training or different strategies with approaching concert goers.

    It's okay.

by okhino on 9/14/17Ben Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia

To be fair, the first day was all rain, and it was absolutely miserable. I think there were a ton of technical issues because the set times were delayed. There were stages with way too much downtime without music. Most of the time, we would expect music to still be playing while we wait, but it was pretty disappointing to be in a music festival without constant music. Philly itself is a terrible location to visit. That's a different story for another day. The second day was much better, but really only 3-4 performances were worth seeing, and 2 of them overlapped. I thought this was very poor planning since, again, there were better time slots that they could have used them in. I wouldn't go back. That's for sure.
