BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT IN CONCERT:

Praised by Elton John as "the hottest new thing in music", electro pop up-and-comer Bright Light Bright Light, a.k.a. Rod Thomas, is winning over concertgoers with his delectable dancefloor glamour. From the club banger "Good Luck" to the starry-eyed ballad "In Your Care", his expertly crafted tunes demonstrate considerable range, and critics have compared him to heavyeweights like Robyn, Kate Bush, and Pet Shop Boys. Commanding the stage with soulful vocals and contagious optimism, Bright Light Bright Light always treats ticket buyers to a fun and dance-worthy live experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Bright Light Bright Light is the brainchild of Welsh-born multi-instrumentalist Rod Thomas. His first forays into music were folk-based -- he wrote his first song at age 13 and showed an affinity for acoustic guitar tracks featuring minimal beats and folky songwriting. In his early '20s he moved to London where he built a home recording studio and cut his teeth performing in the city's busy underground train stations. As he became more influenced by disco and house music, he released several electro pop singles under his own name. He eventually adopted the Bright Light Bright Light moniker, inspired by a line from the movie Gremlins. In 2009 he sent demo tracks to producer Boom Bip (Neon Neon), who invited him to Los Angeles and produced his debut single, "Love Part II". As his skills as a DJ and producer sharpened, Thomas remixed tracks for Ellie Goulding and Nina Pallot, and before long he had hearned an opening slot on Goulding's UK Tour in 2010. In 2012 he dropped his debut album Make Me Believe In Hope, which drew praise from critics and even caught the attention of legendary singer-songwriter Elton John's. The two subsequently collaborated on the beautifully sad duet "I Wish We Were Leaving", which appeared on Thomas' 2014 sophomore album Life Is Easy. Later that year Thomas joined John as a supporting act on his UK and North American tours, generating rave reviews with his party-starting live performances.

What a delightful show. The warm-up band, Crush Club, was a blast. I am looking forward to getting their entire album when it's ready. Then Bright Light Bright Light was warm, energetic, fun, moving, dancy, eyebrow-raising great fun and feeling. Bought the record right away.

He works hard for the money and gives great show

by RobbedbyBanks on 2/15/16Mercury Lounge - New York

Bright Light Bright Light (Rod Thomas) puts on an amazing show. In the immortal words of Donna Summer, "she works hard for the money." I've now seen him perform several times in various venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn, and I have never left anything less than self-satisfied that I know about this gem of an act in the early days of his building stardom. He has an ever mutable cast of collaborators joining him on stage for any given show, and he seems to passionately pursue making each event special and unique. Whether he's serving you a beat driven "disco moment," or piano driven "In your care," you can be sure his lyrics will pull at your heart and his beautiful voice will deliver the narrative in an emotional, pensive, and ultimately uplifting wallop. Last Friday in New York, we got a taste of new music he's written, but he's prolific and there is always something new just around the bend (a real treat for his avid fans). At The Mercury Lounge, he played the sax on stage for the first time and yes... the sax is back in pop. This and the fantastic backing vocals give a richness and organic depth that is missing from music these days. It's also so enjoyable that Rod shares his thoughts and process, and even jokes between songs. It's like he's performing just for you, and the give and take between him and the crowd is infectious. There is a bright light in pop music and Rod Thomas is it.
