About

BRIAN WILSON IN CONCERT:

Visionary musical genius Brian Wilson first rose to international acclaim in the early ‘60s as the mastermind behind The Beach Boys’ “California Sound”, and now he’s bringing his crowning achievement back to fans on his Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour. The seminal album won over fans around the world with its pioneering blend of orchestral arrangements, glistening harmonies, and coming-of-age lyrics, and it's widely regarded as one of the finest albums of the 20th century. Now, Wilson has invited top-notch musicians and some old friends to help him recreate each masterfully composed song note-for-note from start to finish—all while ticket buyers sing along to each unforgettable melody. With original Beach Boy Brian Wilson performing each beloved tune from the album with his signature good vibrations, this can’t-miss event is sure to stay with fans for a lifetime.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Inglewood, CA in 1942, Brian Wilson honed his musical chops in high school by deconstructing hits by The Four Freshman on the family piano and teaching the harmony parts to his brothers. After befriending Al Jardine in his college choir class, the two had the idea of forming a band. They teamed up with Brian’s brothers, Carl and Dennis, and his cousin, Mike Love, in 1961 and began performing as The Pendletones. After changing their name to The Beach Boys, the group rose to phenomenal success in the first half of the ‘60s with massive hits like “ Surfin’ Safari”, “I Get Around”, and “Help Me, Rhonda”. As their principal songwriter, Wilson had written or co-written over two dozen hits and gained complete control over the group’s studio production by his 21st birthday. His ground-breaking use of the recording studio as an instrument led to increasingly elaborate and experimental songs. Wilson's talent and creative ambition reached new heights with the release of 1966’s Pet Sounds, an enduring classic that many critics consider one of the best albums of all time. Sadly, Wilson suffered a nervous breakdown trying to top the album’s brilliance and spent much of the next two decades in deteriorating mental and physical health. He recaptured the public imagination in 1988, however, when he released his critically praised self-titled solo debut. As luck would have it, that same year The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and scored their first number 1 hit in 22 years with “Kokomo”. Since then, Brian has continued to pursue projects at his discretion—both with The Beach Boys and as a solo artist—including his warmly received 2015 album No Pier Pressure.

I felt sad for Brian Wilson.

    by Jhay on 7/27/22

I was there to see Chicago as I'm not a huge Beach Boys fan. I didn't know what to expect; will Brian play with Chicago or open for them? It turns out he opened for Chicago. The band was excellent! They sounded excellent and had great energy on stage. Fun music! However, I really felt bad for Brian Wilson. I respect Brian Wilson's talent immensely but I felt bad for him. I felt like he wasn't even there and he was, as another reviewer stated, MIA. I think he sang a few lines of a couple songs but I couldn't tell. He didn't move at all except for an occasional minor head movement. The stage crew wheeled Brian on stage, propped him up behind a piano, and wheeled him off the stage after the concert. The crowd gave him a standing ovation, and it looked like he didn't know it. Maybe he did but from where I was sitting it didn't look like he responded at all. If you are there to hear Beach Boys music by all means attend this concert. If you are there to see Brian Wilson on stage go to You Tube and watch videos of him in his better days.

Brian Wilson and his amazing band !

    by M. D. on 7/25/22

Went to see Brian June 24,2022 In Tinley Park, Il. Brian is a musical genius and the sheer numbers of awesome songs he has written is jaw dropping. I have nothing but respect and love for this amazing man. Brian however, is no longer Brian. With assistance to get to the piano, and neery a wave or acknowledgement to the crowd, He basically is MIA. I don't think he even blinks. He just sits there. He is unable to play or even sing. I felt so sorry for him as it must be torture for him to sit stone cold thru the entire concert. They are just using his name to draw crowds. Al Jardine and Blondie can still rock with the best of 'em. Brian's band is amazing, but they need to get their own gig and stop using Brian as the headliner because Brian isn't there any more. He checked out a long time ago and it can't be any fun for him to just sit there. I'll always wish the best for this amazing man. Please Brian, retire and enjoy the good years ahead. Everyone still loves you !!

Brian Wilson and his AMAZING band

    by MB on 7/25/22

Saw Brian and his band June 24, 2022. Al Jardine, Blondie, and the rest of the band were awesome. I hate to be cruel, but Brian is MIA again. He just sits at the piano and hardly moves. I don't think he even blinks. I have always loved Brian and his songwriting and singing. I also realize he has some major health issues. I don't think he sang nor played one song. He's way past retirement. It kind of gets me mad that they promoting "Brian Wilson" as the headliner when Brian has clearly checked out. His band is fantastic and could clearly hold their own with no Brian. He is such a talented musician and I'll always respect and love him, but he needs to pack it in and relax and enjoy his senior years. Stop using his name as a headliner, sadly he will be missed, but his many beautiful songs will live on.

    Sad to see

    by Mel on 7/18/22

Ditto what everyone else is saying here. I dont want to leave Brian a bad review - it really seems like he is not in control of this situation, and his band is amazing. But if you are buying a ticket to see BRIAN WILSON perform, save your money. Brian comes out in a walker sits at the piano, never plays, maybe sings one or two lines from one of his iconic songs and that’s about it. It was very sad to see. One has to wonder if he would prefer to live out his last years NOT on a stressful multi city tour. Just my two cents. And I love Brian Wilson and his music but damn it really made me sad to see him in this state.

    Elder Abuse

    by T. C. on 7/16/22

The man doesn’t belong on a stage, much less on a multi-city tour with Chicago. It’s criminal dragging this man around and propping him up nightly.

    Amazing show

    by hayz on 7/2/22

brian wilson is a potato and was sad to see him not even wave or barely sing or even stand but his band sounded great, and it was surreal to see Brian in the flesh. Chicago was amazing 20/10.

    Very Disappointed

    by JOHN on 6/26/22

Sadly, this was a very disappointing experience. It should not be labeled as a "Brian Wilson" concert. I feel so sorry for him, but he was only a prop. He did not even wave to the crowd when he was cheered. The music was "OK," however, guest artists appeared and their music was unrecognizable loud noise. I would NOT recommend this concert to anyone hoping to capture the old Beach Boy spirit.
