It's a far cry from his former band Broken Social Scene, which sometimes featured up to 19 band members at once. Toronto-born singer-songwriter Brendan Canning is a music veteran whose recorded work spans more than 25 years and includes several notable bands, including By Divine Right, Valley of the Giants, Len, Blurtonia, and hHead. He's also a founding member of well-known indie rock collective Broken Social Scene, which formed in 1999 and took an indefinite hiatus in 2011. Canning first tested the solo waters in 2008 with his debut album For All Of Us..., a Top 20 hit on Billboard's Heatseekers chart that drew him out on a North American tour. After Broken Social Scene disbanded, Canning resurrected his early '00s electro pop outfit Cookie Duster and released the 2012 album When Flying Was Easy. He also became a sought-after film composer, scoring movies like Half Nelson, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and The Canyons. But it wasn't long before his solo career beckoned again -- he released his sophomore album You Gots 2 Chill in 2013, earning critical acclaim for his atmospheric blend of indie rock and folk.
