    Nothing beats live Jazz!

by AGN.USA on 1/31/24Indiana University Auditorium - Bloomington

We really enjoyed Branford Marsalis and his band. Love that they changed up their setlist because they were in Indiana and wanted to pay homage to Hoagy Carmichael because of it. The show was great and not too long. Marsalis is fantastic on the Sax...but the drummer was insanely good as well. Just a great time - made me feel like our town has some culture and diversity.

Second time -- fewer songs, longer riffs

by A Meyer on 1/29/24Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

I previously saw The Branford Marsalis Quartet pre-pandemic, back in 2019. This performance was different. It felt more like we were watching a practice. He did mention this was their first time together in about 3 months. At one point, the pianist actually looked at the audience and commented: "You paid for this."It's a very talented group and clearly they enjoy playing together. They were having fun, and everyone got time to expand their parts, but honestly I wanted to hear more from Branford Marsalis.

    Great concert

Great concert. Excellent venue. Bradford could have played a little more but when he did he was excellent.

musicians performing at the highest level

by Dr. Z on 1/27/24Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

As a pretty good amateur jazz pianist I have heard and seen many musicians with an appreciation for what they are doing. Branford Marsalis is a legend and his quartet have been together for many years. The various styles and originality of their pieces made for an amazing evening. Most importantly was the communication between the 4 of them-both in between pieces and especially the way they interacted musically. All are top-notch. If you get a chance to see them don't miss it! Oh yeah-the next morning I ran into Branford on a hotel elevator-a true post-concert highlight!

    Misnomer

by Fitz on 1/27/24Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

The show was really the piano player who was amazing. Enjoyed his arrangements and enthusiasm. Would have liked to hear more playing from Marsalis.

    We need more Branford

by Sanmaarteen on 1/26/24Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

The show was disappointing because Branford Marsalis was overly differential to the other 3 musicians and we needed to hear more of his beautiful sax playing. Also, the drummer wanted to be the center of attention at all times rather than providing rhythm.

    It Was Okay

by David on 1/26/24Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

They hadn’t played together since October. Branford walked off stage on EVERY number and let the band (mostly the pianist) takeover for at least half the song. In addition, song selection was not particularly interesting to me.

    Amazing

by Jeff on 1/26/24Center Theatre at North Shore Center for the Performing Arts - Skokie

Such a great quartet. Their ability to communicate with just a glance was amazing to see. Branford continues to provide one of the most thoughtful and entertaining jazz shows around.
