    Lot's of fun

by Seventwosix on 7/24/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I think the fact you can take food and you're own booze to this venue really makes it unique. It's really unheard of. I love it. We brought two bottle of wine to share with friends and had a great time listening to the LA Phil. I'm coming back asap

    Simply fantastique.......

    by Catalina3000 on 7/22/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a beautiful night, warm and quiet and the music was just matching. We had a great time - loved the introduction to the main piece especially. Witty and with a great british smirk..... Take your mosquito spray though.......

    Synphonie Fantastique

by ArtsAfficionado on 7/21/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The music was played soulfully and beautifully under British conductor, Bramwell Tovey on Thursday July 18! I would rate the musical performances at "Five Stars," but averaging in the experience of dealing with some Bowl operations issues, my overall rating was lowered. Tovey seems to be quite at home at the Hollywood Bowl; while a serious conductor, he was entertaining and playful with the audience. I appreciated that Martin Chalifour, our own LA Phil's concertmaster, was able to showcase his enormous talent as featured violin soloist playing Glazunov's Violin Concerto in A. Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique is a beautiful piece, but Tovey provided "too much information" regarding the composer and the meaning behind the composition, which detracted somewhat from my enjoyment of the piece! Since I continued to encounter problems with poor customer service exhibited by Pasadena transportation staff. Though this was reported, Bowl customer service personnel have done nothing to rectify the situation. Thus, I was left with less than an optimal experience!

Superior symphony with LA Philharmonic orchestra!

by RooRooBears on 7/21/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Took my fiancé to her first LA Philharmonic performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Purchased the cheapest seats we could find and sure glad we did, because we moved right up during intermission and had a whole bench to ourselves! They opened with the famous symphony played in Fantasia and ended with a 39-minute long piece that had 5 movements or more. It didn't matter to me what music they played because my fiancé and I brought blankets, wine, and our kindles... Set up camp on our newly claimed bench... Laid down.. And simply read our paperwhite kindles underneath the stars with a bit of classical music in the background. As long as my fiancé enjoyed the experience, I was a happy camper. If she didn't, then I was a dead man. Luckily the former ended up happening. Overall great experience and LA Philharmonic at its best!

    Elgar's Chello Concerto

by Oldtruck on 7/21/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a wonderful evening under the stars at a place my wife and I will not forget. Bramwell Tovey (Conductor) was both charming to listen to as well as a wonderful presence on stage. Johannes Moser on Chello, was on task and in command of his craft, start to finish. This concert certainly was a high point for our visit to L.A.

The concert was great, johannes Moser had lots of energy and was fun to watch, despite the rude LAPD helicopter that flew overhead at least 4 times during the performance. You would think that the Bowl would have an arrangement with air traffic control to make a no-fly zone in and around their venue, but either they don't, it isn't a big enough zone or the LAPD just ignored it, either way, even Moser took note during his performance and was surprised by it. Despite that, it didn't affect his playing, which was beautiful. The conductor was clever and witty and darn good as well. Overall, a great show, topped off with a fun version of On the Hall of the Mountain King accompanied by some well-timed fireworks!
