About

Brad Whitford in Concert

Whether you know his name or not, his searing guitar-playing is at the center of some of your favorite rock songs. Born in 1952 in Winchester, Massachusetts, Brad Whitford moved to Boston, where he attended Berklee College of Music. While there, he played in numerous local bands, eventually joining a little ensemble called Aerosmith in 1971.

The hard rock group had formed the year before, and when original guitarist Ray Tabano exited, Whitford was a perfect fit. The band signed to Columbia Records in 1972, and the rest was history. They dropped their first album in ‘73, and it went platinum, landing on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

With Aerosmith, Whitford achieved his first No. 1 album, 1993's ‘Get a Grip,' which also went platinum — across the band's tenure, they've sold more than 150 million albums worldwide. Aerosmith's numerous hit singles include 1976's No. 10 charting single "Last Child," co-written by Whitford, plus the band's anthemic 1978 cover of The Beatles' "Come Together" and their 1998 smash "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," the band's first No. 1 hit in 28 years.

Outside of Aerosmith, Whitford has had a solid career of his own. In 1981, he briefly left the band to pursue a solo project with singer Derek St. Holmes, who'd previously played with Ted Nugent. They worked together on and off as Whitford/St. Holmes, touring as recently as 2015.

Additionally, Whitford has toured with former Aerosmith bandmate Joe Perry in his band The Joe Perry Project. Whitford also has produced Boston band The Neighborhoods, who released a number of albums, including two for Roadrunner Records. In 2010, Whitford participated in the Experience Hendrix tour alongside Joe Satriani, Ernie Isley, and Living Colour. Whitford has been included in Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.

We now Know who holds down the fort for Aerosmith...it is Brad Whitford!!!!! I think he sleeps with that Strat!!!!!1 If you considered going and didn't....BIG MISTAKE! Derick St. Holmes was incredable as well, thrilling us all with a stunning perfomance. Will it be the next hot band? One can only speculate.

    Opening Band Rocks It!!!!

by Leezola on 11/22/15B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Bottom line is that the opening band was so great there was nowhere to go but down. The Matt O'Ree Band killed with thunderous guitar riffs and soul shaking sounds. Go see them if you can!

The show was great. It was such a relaxed setting, the set list was awesome. Just a nice feeling to sit and listen to them play their guitars with such passion. Whitford (to me) allowed himself to let go and really show us what he can do. Let me tell you it was hair raising how Great he is. St. Holmes voice is breathtaking, so strong and mesmerizing. They were so relaxed and played with the audience. It made you feel good, not just a face in the crowd. It was like the old days when fame didn't get in the way!! Thinking about going to see them again tonight.

    Fresh rock n roll

by NHvette on 11/20/15The Wilbur - Boston

Wow, very impressive show in Boston. It was a quick show, less than 1.5 hours, but amazing every minute. I was worried that it could be one of those bands where the two guitar players try to outdo each other, but none of that ... respectful, synchronous, awesome guitar all night. Most of the material was original, and very enjoyable even if not familiar. They ended the night with a few "covers", Last Child, Train Kept a Rollin', and Stranglehold.

    Whitford St Holmes finally!!

    by Lauriel680 on 11/16/15Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

I have been waiting since 1981 to see them live and it was so worth it! I only have two complaints and one of them they couldn't have done anything about. One of my complaints is that this venue is a seated only venue. Who can possibly sit with Whitford St Holmes playing?!? My only other complaint was that they did not do an encore. The quick meet and greet afterward made up for that though!
