the most performances were all so beautiful and heartfelt, and as a member in the audience, I was able to clearly see their love of the music in which they performed.

    Where were the Christmas carols?

by Christmas Carol on 12/11/23Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

The interpretation of the 12 days of Christmas was absolute genius! I loved it. And i loved the fun Christmas sweaters. However, The first piece, Greensleeves, was terrible. Did not sound good at all. I think the band needed more practice. The soloist, Christy, for the next piece, although good choir voice, was not really good enough to be a soloist. The entire program did not have anything that referenced the birth of Jesus. No Christmas carols at all! Totally Godless decision that is typical for BSU but very disappointing to me.

    Student Recital

by Sue on 12/10/23Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

I understand that this is a student recital but it is also directed toward families-many who bring young children. In order to make it a more family friendly event, it should start earlier and not last more than 90 minutes. After about 20 minutes the kids in the audience start getting restless. They talk, stand up, continually change seats, go to the bathroom, and play with their cell phones, etc. This recital was too long and frankly kind of boring. Getting the audience to sing was a good idea but the Partridge in a Pear Tree was agony. Lastly, the head of the music department should be able to give her remarks without reading them. Treat this like a recital and keep it short and sweet.

    A joyous and moving experience!

by Deb the drum major on 4/12/23Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

This farewell concert with and for maestro Marcellus Brown was a perfect tribute to a man at the zenith of his career as teacher, mentor, leader, colleague, musician and inspiration across 33years from his position at Boise State University. Brown’s professionalism, compassion and quest for excellence has led him to no small measure of esteem among students, faculty, colleagues and music lovers throughout the U.S. and beyond. The performances of the groups on stage this night gives heart-lifting testimony to that, and let’s the listener well up with joy and gratitude, whether they have known Marcellus for years, or just since tonight. Thanks for making ticket access easy and accessible for this fine event.

What a wonderful event as talented musicians and outstanding conductors presented amazing musical numbers. Those who planned the event excelled at honoring the man who has impacted many lives and the quality of bands in Treasure Valley and across the country. My heart was touched. Thank you all!

Loved the different music groups for their talent.

by Ruthie on 12/4/22Morrison Center for the Performing Arts - Boise

However, I missed the traditional Christmas music. I never get tired of hearing them at this special reason for the season. The percussionist group (xylophones and drums) could have performed “Little Drummer Boy.” I know they would have done a smashing job! Choir with its beautiful blend of voices could have performed “Mary Did You Know?” An exquisite piece of music that touches one’s heart as one listens in wonder. As each large music group exits and the stage crew set up for the next group, a quartet from choir or string quartet could lead a sing along with the audience to keep the momentum of the Christmas spirit rolling. It’s not to say I don’t recognize the hard work the stage crew do and we should take time to applaud and recognize them for their vital contribution to the night, as we do for the musical groups, but the crew is the backstage support group not onstage performers. My husband and I had a lovely time but felt the true meaning and spirit of Christmas was missing, At this time of year, there are a lot of hurting and lonely people in the world. They need to hear they are special, worthy of love, and children of the most high God in spite of their sinful nature.

Our son plays the violin in 5th grade, we brought him to the show so he could see what hard and dedication looks like. Now, but only is he excited about playing, but he wants to go to BSU!
