Boardwalk Follies is an excellent Magic Show

by Basheema on 4/18/11Atlantic City Hilton - Atlantic City

Boardwalk Follies is a great disappointment if you think you're going to a Las Vegas type review. If you want to see a fun and excellent magic show you'll have a good time.

    Seen Better

by dada65 on 4/16/11Atlantic City Hilton Theater - Atlantic City

Enjoyed some of the magic, though some of the tricks did seem 'old hat' (pun intended) The aerialists were not the best I've seen, but seemed very strong I did not find the singer and dancers to be so much 'trashy' or 'tacky', as I read in some of the reviews, as so-so. Whoever chose the music for the songs and dances seemed to do so randomly and have thrown them together. It sometimes seemed like watching a homemade Youtube attempt at a music video. Glad I got reduced price tickets.

    Good Show, Very bad theater

by mishimishi on 4/4/11Atlantic City Hilton - Atlantic City

The show overall was okay, the best part was the dancers. If it wasn't for the dancers the show would not have amounted to much. The magician was handsome so that added to his act, but most of his "tricks" were "old" tricks seen many times before. The singer left much to be desired. Her voice wasn't so great and I didn't particularly care for the selection of songs she sang. I also have a feeling some of the original show was omitted because someone mentioned she sang a song wearing a white bridal dress and this was not performed at the show I saw. By the way, some of the dancers did have holes in their stockings, which made the act a little tacky. I don't understand why they didn't provide another set of hose for the dancers. Last of all, the Hilton should seriously consider updating their theater, which in my opinion is not really a theater. It was an auditorium with a level floor and dining room chairs set up one next to the other.

    It was ok

by mh128 on 3/28/11Atlantic City Hilton - Atlantic City

The Boardwalk Follies was not at all what I expected. The magic was awesome, the aerial sisters were amazing but the "Follie" girls, was not impressed. I thought it would be a bit more traditional/classical (rockettes type of performance) and it was more modern, which is fine, but none of the music/choreography had a flowing story to it. Again, it was ok but would not go see again.

    Go and see this show

by LynnElizabeth on 3/23/11The Hilton - Atlantic City

I went to see the show last week and I really enjoyed it. I was expecting old school tunes, traditional follie and burlesque music and dances and was pleasantly surprised by the modern twist and the added variety of a magician and acrobatic artists. The magician was enjoyable but the tricks he features in the show seem a little dated and 'old hat' for someone his age - he could be doing some crazy stunts and great things with a stage that size and could definitely squeeze those dancers into some more obscure and fun props! I loved the lead singer and the fact that she could hold her own with the dancers in the audition number, was brilliant. Great power house voice and she will do well in the future with more training and confidence, I think she did a great job with the songs she was given. Hands-down the best part of the show for me were the dancers. They are a gorgeous group of young women that showed talent in a variety of dance styles and proved they weren't there just the magician's assistants. The choreography was sassy and fresh and all done with enthusiasm and you really get to see the dancers in a different light in each number. The girls all look in great shape and make it look easy!! I recommend you go and see for yourself and you will enjoy.

    AWE.... FULL!!

by showgirl28 on 3/17/11Atlantic City Hilton Grand Theater - Atlantic City

WOW!! When Ticketmaster invited me to review Follies, I didn’t expect so many reviews for such a small show!! Here's my 2 cents: My fiancé and I saw Michael Turco in ‘Wonder’ a couple years ago, so decided to see this. We enjoy his magic, and although his ‘showman’ style can be a bit hokey, it certainly matches the overall caliber of this show. We also enjoyed the aerialists… admittedly, not Cirque material, but graceful at times. The singer? We both agreed with many of the other reviewers here; she has some potential, but seemed very raw and at times to be doing her best Christina Aguilera impersonation, and she was not helped by the choice of musical numbers. As far as that is concerned, the ‘Boardwalk’ number held promise of something different, then bam!! We landed in 2005 for not one but two Pussycat Doll numbers… seen it, and haven’t they grown up by now? And if you must, then the moves should be as original and crisp as theirs… equal hair tossing for all! Ditto the MJ number… yawn…been there. The wedding dress was a puzzle (??), we also saw holes in the dancer’s tights, and what was with the top falling off the girl in the audition number? We recently returned from Vegas, where we saw a couple of the wonderful Cirque shows, and Peepshow at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. Peepshow’s burlesque is everything the Follies dancers aspire to be but fail to achieve… sassy, classy and a little tongue in cheek… and their superb dancers wowed from minute one. And… the Director / Choreographer is a Tony award winner from right here in NYC! With Atlantic City’s close proximity to NYC talent like his, I am often left wondering why we get these same old, second rate ‘shows’ instead of exciting, creative and innovative entertainment staged by true, seasoned pros like Mr. Mitchell.. Overall, Follies was about what I expected for under $30… but save your money and go to the excellent buffet at the Borgata instead.
