About

BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD IN CONCERT:

Dreamy synth rock band Blackbird Blackbird is taking the world by storm with their unique blend of ethereal guitars, ambient vocals, and instrumental breakdowns. At the bands relaxed live shows tracks like "It's A War" and "Hawaii" transport fans to paradise, and frontman Mikey Maramag's characteristically chilled-out persona is the perfect accompaniment to the band's vibed-out sound. Whether Maramag is backed by a full band or building up instrumental loops as a solo act, Blackbird Blackbird always delivers one exciting show after the next on their unforgettable tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Blackbird Blackbird is the brainchild of San Francisco-based musician Mikey Maramag. The singer and multi-instrumentalist began to pen and record his songs under the moniker during his college years, and he released his debut album Summer Heart in 2010. Maramag's music continued to evolve with his 2012 follow-up EP Boracay Planet, which generated significant blog buzz with the popular track "It's A War". Since then he's headlined tours around the US and Europe, released his 2014 LP Tangerine Sky, and become known for his fun-filled live shows.

Blackbird Blackbird reinvents laptop music genre

by BigEars42 on 7/6/14Mercury Lounge - New York

The performance by Mikey Maramag, stage name “Blackbird Blackbird”, originally harking from Honolulu, Hawaii, but currently based in southern California, was in support of his latest release, “Tangerine Sky”, a dreamy, psychedelic pastiche of electronica with heavy use of echo guitar and vocal effects. The venue, the Mercury Lounge, is a modest room at the back of a bar on Houston Street on the lower east side of Manhattan and was filled to capacity, c. 150 people. The performance was sublime and the audience entranced. He played for over an hour, at times crouched over his laptop on which his accompaniment was provided, producing the fullest and most complex of soundscapes. Midway through his set a rather burly gentleman sprang on to the stage to congratulate him and later deluged the audience with the contents of his water bottle (twice) from the middle of the throng before being escorted into the next room for a telling off from the most diplomatic bouncer I have ever seen, kudos to him. It is a shame that the artist is reduced to begging for couch space on twitter from fans when he is quite clearly such an accomplished musician. Catch him if you can – highly recommended.
