About

Bill Maher on Tour

As fearless as any stand-up to take the stage, Bill Maher has never been shy about letting audiences know what he's thinking. With the razor-sharp wit he's brandished since his start in New York's comedy scene in the late ‘70s, Maher's candor has made him not just a comedy icon but one who's keenly attuned to the ever-changing worlds of politics and popular culture.

In his regular live appearances, Maher flaunts the same caustic but clear-eyed humor that's made HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher a television institution since 2003. Skewering idiocies, banalities and hypocrisies from across the political spectrum, Maher doesn't flinch from controversial topics of the day, and he finds laughs in subjects that other comedians don't dare to touch.

Bill Maher Background

No subject in politics or culture is safe from Bill Maher's reliably ruthless wit. Politically incorrect and proud of it, he is a comedian and commentator who plays by no one else's rules. This quality has made him a favorite of audiences and TV viewers for over four decades.

After cutting his teeth at his hometown's legendary comedy club Catch a Rising Star in the late ‘70s, the native New Yorker gained a wider profile through appearances on The Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman. He got his chance to show off his own skills as a talk show host when Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher debuted on Comedy Central in 1993. The Emmy-winning late-night political show continued to garner laughs and controversy on ABC from 1997 to 2002.

Since 2003, Maher and his guests have enjoyed free rein on Real Time with Bill Maher, the fearless and freewheeling talk show that begins its 18th season on HBO in 2020. But as busy as he may be on his own show and as a guest commentator on CNN, MSNBC and elsewhere, Maher is always ready to demonstrate his enduring prowess as a live stand-up in venues throughout the U.S. and Canada.

it was a great show this time. I’ve seen him 2 or 3 times now always enjoy, but this time the audience was really engaged and having a good time with him ! I always try to catch him when he comes to bay area. 😍

    Bridging the Divide

by Comedy enthusiast on 4/23/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Great to see someone who gives equal time to the absurdities of both the right and the left. We all laughed together for ninety minutes and left smiling and hopeful.

    Audio was pretty bad

by Dave on 4/23/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Not sure if its Bill Maher's style or bad acoustics of the venue, but the audio was pretty bad. It was so bad that people in balcony had to shout "cannot hear you"and then Bill increased his voice by 10%. I was sitting in the balcony and had a hard time listening to his soft voice. I'd love the venue to increase the volume or install more speakers for the audience which isn't sitting in the first few rows.

    Barr-ly audible

by Augie on 4/23/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Barr had funny moments but he would go in and out clear hearing what he said. Sometimes he spoke in conversational tone and made it had to hear him.

Bill Maher knocks it out of the park in San Jose

by Joyce Bill Maher fan! on 4/23/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

Bill Maher had a full crowd at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. The audience loved him and he made us laugh and covered a lot of subjects about mostly politics, but also getting along politically too. The tickets were hard to get on Ticketmaster because everything is on the cell phone now. I did ask for real tickets at Will Call and I did get them at the theatre, but I kept getting messages from Ticketmaster about getting the tickets on my phone when they were already at Will Call. I think Ticketmaster should make it easier to get paper tickets too. Otherwise, a great evening and easy parking close by. We are big Bill Maher fans and this was our 7th concert! Artist Good/Venue Bad

by Max from C on 4/23/24San Jose Center for the Performing Arts - San Jose

For $500 for 2, I would have thought the event people could get the sound right. Depending on how Bill held the Mike, some words you could hear others not. It was kind of maddening. This is base level event planning...make sure the sound is good. But Ctr Perf Arts crew were abysmal here. It took away from the show. Many good and subtle lines were missed. Bill was pretty good, about like his show. The sound is important becasue it seems his demo leans older, who have hearing issues.

His delivery -his material- his energy—-all superb. Fast paced delivery and insightful. He was spot on-never missed a beat and laugh out loud funny while showing intelligence and inclusivity. I would see him again in a minute.

    Bill Maher’s the Best!!!

by JGirl on 3/26/24The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - Miami Beach

Bill Maher was outstanding!!! We’re huge fans of everything he does. He’s funny, irreverent, and brilliant. Can’t wait to see him again!!! The venue should not allow people coming in more than 10 minutes late. It’s very disruptive and plain rude. To the performer and to the audience. Some people were 30 minutes late, that’s not acceptable. (Probably at the lobby bar)
