Norwegian neo-soul crooner Bernhoft continues to set the groove with his jazzy tunes and sultry vocals. At his live shows Bernhoft's throwback performance style and virtuosic backing band recall the craftsmanship of a bygone musical era, transporting fans back to the golden age of soul while remaining firmly oriented to the future with slick production elements. Whether he's nailing the falsetto harmonies of "Streetlights" or treating fans to his unique rendition of Tears for Fears' hit "Shout", the charismatic singer’s confidence and showmanship make for an unforgettable experience on his must-see tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Norway-born, New York-based Jarle Bernhoft got his start with the Norwegian band Explicit Lyrics before forming the rock band Span in the early '00s. After several successful releases -- including two Top 5 albums in Norway -- Span called it quits, and in 2008 Bernholdt made his solo debut with the soul-influenced album Ceramik City Chronicles. The album marked a new stylistic direction for the singer and proved popular with audiences, landing at No. 4 on the Norwegian charts. His next two albums landed at No. 1, and in 2014 he topped the Norwegian charts a third time with the critically acclaimed Islander LP. A passionate singer with prodigious performance chops, Berhhoft continues to thrill on his electrifying tours.

Every year I expect him to break big and move to a larger room, but not yet. Whether solo or backed with a full band, Bernhoft puts on a multifaceted show that is wildly entertaining.

To see one person sound like an entire band was a unique experience. Bernhoft is truly in touch with his audience which only raises the level of the experience. I would hands down recommend Bernhoft to anyone looking for a new favorite musician. Can't wait to see him again next year!

by maudlinbear on 5/16/16The Foundry - PhiladelphiaBernhoft is an incredible live performer. His voice is so dynamic on recordings, but even more raw in person. He has amazingly high energy throughout the whole show and just looks like he's having the time of his life jamming with his band. The band also vibes really well together and each of them are super super nice. The stage was too small for all the movement that Bernhoft wants to do, but he made it work. Negatives: Bernhoft didn't have any merch for sale besides the CDs that I already have. The venue kicked us out before Bernhoft could come out and say hi to the lingering fans waiting for him. Jonny P was the opening act. He has a very smooth and old soul quality to his vibe and his voice. A song called Monster really sealed the deal for me.

by DrDudek on 5/15/16The Foundry - PhiladelphiaIt is amazing that Bernhoft is not a world wide phenomena. Bernhoft sets himself apart by performing all aspects of a 5 piece band on his own. It is unbelievable how one person can sound exactly like an entire band. I would definitely recommend Bernhoft to anyone and everyone. I will suggest to try to find a solo performance though. The Shudderbugs were very talented, but having seen Bernhoft before on his own, his solo performance is something I guarantee you have never seen before and will change the way you look at other artists. Bernhoft it truly talented and I can't wait for the next time he's back in town!
