Bernard Allison & Local Band
by WayneBradby on 2/14/12Attucks Theatre - NorfolkThe Attucks Theater is a great place to see a live show. The venue is small, but that's the beauty of it. Sound system is powerful, but not overwhelming. Seats on both the floor and balcony provide close and intimate viewing of the band. The opening band was from Norfolk and they were very impressive. I think the name was Trim Piece and I also think the folks in front of us were related to one of the guitarists. Lead guitar was quite good and halfway through the show, the brouught out a female vocalist (who's name escapes me at the moment) and she was a great addition to the band. Will definitely look for them playying locally again. Then Bernard Allison came out and blew the roof off. The band has just returned from a tour of Germany and were headed back home and happened to make a stop here in Norfolk. We're lucky they did. From the first notes of the guitar, you could tell you were in for a special night. Today, I happened to watch a DVD of Bernard's father, Luther, doing a live show and could see the influence he's had on the younger Allison. Not only that, but the sax and keyboardist (who I think actually played with Luther) were just outstanding. The whole band was engaging and it was one of the better live blues shows I've seen in a long time.
