NOT THE WAY I WANT TO REMEMBER BEN E KING

by NJOYITLIVE on 6/30/14Missouri Theatre Columbia - Columbia

The whole night was very sad and to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. This once great performer, should not be doing shows as he did on June 27, 2014 in Columbia, MO. Singing off key and butchering poplular songs is just not acceptable, no matter what the age of the performer. I have long been a Ben E King fan and will continue to be. However, I will block this performance out of my mind in order to remain a great fan and supporter.

Ben E. King and Friends Excellence Par None

by MikeyDeanLewis on 10/1/13B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

Wonderful show! Lenny Youngblood's sax and vocals were on key and so alive! Then La La Brooks brought down the house with her DaDoRonRon's then the Drifters with their melodies, and then Ben E King's amazing performance! To complete the enchantment, we were treated to Ben celebrating his birthday with a dedication by all the friends. Was so happy and joyful to hear these artists. Incredible! Thanks so much! Michael

    Too short

by rary on 4/15/13The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel - Atlantic City

Ben did all of his great hits and sounded great. But the concert played Friday and Saturday. Friday night it started at 9, Saturday at 8. Of course we didn't read the tickets and got there 20 minutes late and missed two numbers on Saturday. I understand he started right at 8 - sharp, and ended at 9:15. I know the tickets were only $20.00 dollars, but we weren't used to a concert that was so short. We were thrilled to see and hear Ben, but he gave too much time to the band and the back-up singers. He allowed the sax player a 10 minute solo, and in such a short concert that was too much time. He also kept having the 2 back-up singers solo, and they weren't that good, or attractive to look at. So that was annoying. Overall it was still good to see and hear him. Would I do it again? Probably not. There is a concert scheduled in the same venue in August for BB King, and I was seriously thinking of buying tickets, but after this experience, I probably won't.

    One of the Greats

by MWX1901 on 4/14/13The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel - Atlantic City

A thrill it was to see this legendary performer after many decades.Did his biggest hits except perhaps" I Who Have Nothing."Sure he's lost some voice ,but who hasn't after 5-6 decades of performing. He certainly compensated through excellent rapport with the audience, and strong back-up musicians and singers..Most in the crowd seemed to love his medley of great Rock n Roll tunes of the 50's era[Not his hits].Many-including me-on our feet and dancing!

    Ben E. King

by pouncer1 on 3/17/13Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

Ben E still has a good voice, even though he did not command a large audience we danced to some great songs. He was very personable and we got a chance to have a photo shoot with him before the event.

I love the show. It was a rainy cold day, but the seats were great the entertainment was great and we had a good time. I would go back to a concert any time.

    didn't get to see it

by scican on 10/4/11The Meadows Racetrack & Casino - Washington

I'm afraid my wife and I didn't get to see the concert. The Meadows exchanged our original seats in the rain for horrible seats under cover. We left as soon as we saw where are seats were going to be. We are HUGE fans of Pure Gold and were extremely disappointed that we didn't get to see them.

    Bad day in the Meadowlands

by Incey on 10/3/11The Meadows Racetrack & Casino - Washington

Weather was horrible. Meadows should not book outside shows so late in the season. original seats were good but out in the rain and cold. We had tickets exchanged for under cover seats in the grandstand. Not a great view, but out of the rain at least. Show itself was not the best. Did not get started on time; the opening act, Pure Gold did their usual decent singing. Lala Brooks was pretty good. Drifters were so so. Some of the songs they sang were awful. Never heard of therm. Left before Ben E. King and Martha Reeves. I said I would not recommend this show, but if the weather had been good, and the show started on time, I (we) may have enjoyed it more.

Despite the rainy weather, the show was great! I am sure it would have been even better if the weather would have cooperated. I would definitely go again. we were able to trade our tickets for ones out of the rain. They were not as close, but at least we were dry.
