Excellent finale concert of the season!

by LuvLakers on 8/30/12Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Musical choices were great, orchestra was excellent, conductor Vener is always a delight to see, the chorale is always a welcome addition. The singers were superb. Listening to the music of John Williams (Star Wars, etc) is such a delight and well-known; its fun to listen to! Beethoven's Ode to Joy was awesome, also. Quite an ending to a good season!

    great show, horrible billing

by chuckamuck on 8/29/12Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

overall, very pleased with the performance. HOWEVER, the way it was offered made it sound like John Williams was performing (conductor). he was not there, it was his music. this made the price way too excessive to not have him as part of the performance.

    LA Phil John Williams

by LilPokerGuy on 8/29/12Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Great Venue. The conductor is very long winded. The best part was actually the last number, which was Beethovens 9th, not a John Williams composition.

Beethoven and John Williams was outstanding!

by BarbeSue on 8/28/12Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

This was my first time to be at the Disney Hall - what an introduction! Wonderful program conducted by one who obviously enjoys what he does. Really appreciated the way he connected the audience to each piece and/or composer prior to the performance of it. The acoustics at Disney are unbelievable. Each instrument was so clear, the voices were beautiful and all in an exquisite setting. While the exterior of the building is free form, the interior is perfectly symmetrical. From our front row balcony seats we still felt intimate with the orchestra and chorale.

Season ending show. Could not have been better. Powerful. Last three selections, "Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, and 9th Symphony could easily provoke tears of pleasure.

    Great but not perfect

by tattooedbysid on 8/28/12Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

Personally, I thought the pieces they picked, from each composer, were weird to put together. They picked signature pieces, but I'm just not sure they flowed together. And, the information the conductor was stating about Steven Spielberg and John Williams was inaccurate, which made me wince a couple times. Also, I was a fan of the choir, but not the soloists. Lastly, I wasn't as connected to the piece from SAVING PRIVATE RYAN as I would have from JAWS, or CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, or SCHINDLER'S LIST. The music was still rad, though. And, the venue is unreal. Very cool. Very sophisticated. I'd do it again.

    Amazing

by hobbitlove on 8/28/12Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles

The music was amazing (well it is from John Williams and one from Beethoven) but hearing it live with full orchestra and choir was even more so. And then top it all off by seeing it at the famous and beautifully different Walt Disney Concert Hall. The conductor was engaging and fun making it less snooty (as some might expect classical music concerts to be) and more interactive and exciting. Young kids might get bored but even adults who don't like classical music will find this entertaining.
