    You can’t perform being drunk

    by IR on 8/16/23

Bebel came to stage already being drunk and continued drinking on the stage in front of public. That’s normally unacceptable right?

    Shouldn’t Drink On the Job

    by Rickie D. on 8/16/23

She was drinking before the show and started 15 minutes late. Then drank during the show. Two very good side men with her seemed used to it as in “grin and bear it”. Speech and thinking was slurred. Unfortunate. We didn’t stay for the encore, most others did. 70% crowd. Excellent venue.

    Non-sober Samba

    by Consigliare on 8/16/23

Have listened to Bebel's music for 20+ years. Was looking forward to seeing her live. Birchmere is a great venue. Unfortunately, it was an awkward, rambling, talking intermixed with repetitive sound. She seemed like she was drunk. Was on the floor at one point and talking about making money. Musicians weren't allowed to show off their skills. Left early, will remember her music and forget this performance.

    Night Ruined By Alcohol

    by BG on 8/16/23

Bebel showed up tanked and continued to drink onstage. Her voice is still lovely but many songs she didn't even sing the lyrics instead scatting through them. Other she just kept laughing throughout. A real disappointment.

Great singer, but not really eager to sing

by Alewash on 7/18/229:30 CLUB - Washington

She sang only for an hour or less. Great voice, but professionally not striking.

    Intimate. Beautiful. Unforgettable,

    by SulaDivine on 7/16/22

I don’t know how she did it but Bebel made me feel as if I were in her private music parlor giving us all - her friends - a private show. It was that lovely. She displays some of the quirkiness, restlessness, and need for connection that so many of us feel these days and she eased our worries with song. Her presence and voice felt like a blessing. I loved that she flowed with her own energy, that of her accompanying guitarist, and the vibe of the crowd. It was nice that she didn’t hold fast to a stoic playlist. There’s no way to describe how it felt to hear her beautiful and melodic voice live. And also to see how talented she is with sound; everything, from her mimics of instruments and even the sound of a baby chick, she was able create beautiful music. Her range is truly amazing for such a petite little lady. She’s full of fire! There were moments when I felt I was watching a feminine Brazilian version of Al Jarreau or Bobby McFerrin or even Ella Fitzgerald doing her scat. She began the night with the first song of hers (August Rain Song) that I’d ever heard and I felt like I was transported back in time to that magic moment of being introduced to her voice. Every moment of her show was musically sublime while being perfectly human. I felt all of her beautiful energy through her voice, her connection with her guitarist and even the love of her little dog. I didn’t think I could love her more but last night’s show sent me over the moon…and I was lucky enough to have touched her hand and she closed the set. Such a beautiful soul. What an incredible musician and amazing artist. I can’t wait to see her again.

Too little of the Brasil '66 sound

by Sergio fan on 11/19/19Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

I am a huge Sergio fan and have seen him perform at least 15 times at various venues in the Los Angeles area over the years. Before the Nov 15 2019 show, I would have given 5*stars for his concerts. But what started as a slow downhill slide is becoming even more detrimental. The "classic" Sergio is being supplanted by his newer hip-hop sound, with rapper H2O joining the stage. There is a way-way-way-too-long digression with one fellow playing the instruments of Brasil, and frankly no better than I could do. With the wasted time of those two components and the predictability of hearing "Never Gonna Let you Go", "Fool on the Hill " and "Goin' Out of my Head", there is little to get excited about. Mixing it up a little would be nice - "Scarborough Fair" is sorely missed and there were some great songs from the '70s as well ("Love Me Tomorrow"). This show had the wonderful vocalists Gracinha Leporace and Katie Hampton, who is normally excellent but sounded like she had a bit of laryngitis on her lead vocal. I didn't know opening act Bebel Gilberto, but she was excellent and gets an A+.

One of the best concert I have ever been!

We love Bebel Gilberto and Sergio Mendes was still working his magic with his talented band members. What an unforgettable night!
