    Profound

by cayuow on 11/8/10Royce Hall - UCLA Live - Los Angeles

I found this piece very profound. The movements were original creations, many of which I had never seen in any other form before. These movements became motifs throughout the work, which came to morph into new forms, just like the characters themselves. I was amazed. Some of the solos I found a bit drawn out, but the extra music we got to hear because of made up for the length. I could not get enough of the group dances. There were some technical issues which completely killed the moment, but it was not long until it was picked up again. I left eerily and pleasantly chilled.

    Beautiful Monsters was amazing!

by ScaperAnya on 10/26/10Royce Hall - UCLA Live - Los Angeles

Beautiful Monsters at Royce Hall was simply incredible. Melissa Sandvig and all the other dancers were just beautiful to watch. The choreography was sensual, titillating, and uncomfortable at times, but the talent and ability displayed by these dancers are amazing.

    It made me cry

by NotDancingQueen on 10/26/10Royce Hall - UCLA Live - Los Angeles

I am a dancer wanna be. And this just made my desire greater -- which at the age of 46 is a problem. It was amazing. I even cried during one of the pieces. The choreography was sensual at times, playful the next, exciting and lovely. I was riveted throughout the whole performance. If you get a chance, this is a must see dance. Bring tissues.

    The Awesome-ness that is Helios

by rrodrigu on 10/25/10Royce Hall - UCLA Live - Los Angeles

I can't imagine not seeing this company! I've heard so much about them and HAD to see this! I was not disappointed. The set, the lighting, the choreography, the music, the dancers, everything was wonderful and on point. The night almost went on without a hitch, but of course a technical faux-pas from a DVD occurred, but quickly passed. It's good to see a local company premiering their work at the famed Royce Hall.

    Helios performance is a dream

by dancer8 on 10/25/10Royce Hall - UCLA Live - Los Angeles

The Helios performance was innovative and effectively conveyed the sense of being caught up in a dream. The choreography was demanding, but the dancers were more than up to the challenge. I particularly enjoyed the heterogeneous mix of music for the different segments.

This was an excellent show. Great coreography, costumes, sets and the dancers were great. I loved the theme of the concert and the interpretation by the dancers.

    Not 'Beautiful Monster'

by WayDissapointed on 10/25/10Royce Hall - UCLA Live - Los Angeles

This performance should not have been on the UCLA Live Performance Series. It was poor and not up to the standards we have come to expect and not worth the considerable ticket price. Choreography was boring, repetitive and uninventive on every level. Costumes made the dancers hard to even see at times.... and yes I know it's supposed to be a dream with dark monsters. No intermisssion - which always seems arrogant on the part of Choreographers to invite folks to the theatre give it to them in one large lump,,, theatre is also for socializing and enjoying you expensive night out. sound design was nice but didn't really connect with the movement. There was a bit of Opera, some Nat King Cole, a couple other songs, a bit of animation also floating in there, that malfunctioned, percussion score and none of could help the amateur pefromance and choreography presented.
