In full command of a remarkable gift

by JeffersonB on 11/1/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Elegance, wit, and poignancy, and at times just the right amount of sass are but a few of the dimensions of Barbara Cook's talent. You might expect someone whose career is so well established as Miss Cooks to sing the songs that made her famous, and perhaps expect some numbers to sound a little tired, but not this lady-- but she is working on new interpretations and new arrangements. That voice is just as remarkable, just as versatile, and eternally youthful, and nothing short of a national treasure.

what a magical evening. We went with another couple and had such a wonderful time. Ms. Cooks singing is still amazing. Her choice of songs, her phrasing, her energy and grace is something for all to learn from in her profession. I have also been to other performances by her and she never disappoints. A great performer and interpreter of songs.

    Barbara Cook Rocks

by Favunc on 11/1/10Birchmere - Alexandria

Barbara Cook performed at the Birchmere on Friday night to an enthusiatic fan base. Her personality shone through her songs and her acting ability is undiminshed at 83. She has wisely forgone the colatura bits that she did so well early in her career. Now, there is no reaching for uncomfortable notes, but instead a poignant interpretation of standards that brought me to tears. I would love to see her again!

    Thoroughly delightful evening

by Ntrtanr on 10/31/10Birchmere - Alexandria

The experience was wonderful in every way. Barbara Cook continues to be one of the most gifted song stylists of our time. Would love to have her return to the Birchmere soon.

    Still Singing at 83

by MortG on 10/31/10Birchmere - Alexandria

This is the first time I've heard Barbara Cook live. I hope it's not the last. Some friends of ours suggested we had to hear her and they were right. I should be able to sing so well at 83 (she told the audience that her birthday was last Monday). The songs she sang, and the quality of her voice, puts many of today's artists to shame. If you get a chance, go hear her!!!!!
