Review of MONGER choreography by BARAK MARSHALL

by ShelbyGoodman on 4/20/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

It was a great privilege and unique experience! and the best thing that has even happened to a stage. Your dancers were as one, so well trained, your use of costumes original, amusing and amazing, your interchange of male and female, adult as infant, the addition of music and sound to enhance the movements. For me and for the word you are a choreographic genius!

High energy, dramatic dance sequences. Amazing costume work. Amazing use of divergences - silences and music, humor and severity. So many original ideas and such a great trip out of the world of narrative and into the world of feeling!

A cultural masterpiece, wherever you live, a must.

by Anonymous on 4/17/11Royce Hall - UCLA - Los Angeles

Monger is a short story told in dance. It goes beyond the basic upstairs/downstairs conflict and bridges many gaps. There is humour, nostalgia and beauty in Barak's choreography. I have been waiting 2 years for Monger to premier in LA and it was worth every day of anticipation. Whether you are a modern, contemporary dance enthusiast or just being dragged along you will have an enjoyable evening. My husband and I are still talking about it 3 days later.

    Monger was memorable

Marshall's work allows his audience to fully experience cultural angst. Birth without attachment, no "other" to soothe the wounds of life,, suppression, displacement, rage, alienation. A psychological Armageddon of the soul.
